    Shrink wrap bands

I am producing more and more labels with the tamper attached, it saves so much time, with added bonus of a hand label machine. They really are a game changer.

    Mating nucs absconding- any theory

I have moved away from the Apidea's, simply got fed up of them absconding, I tried almost everything. I have now started using Mini Plus, have not had any issues with them so far.

    Shrink wrap bands

I tried the a few years ago, bit of a pain to apply to large quantities of jars, they were the heat shrink type.

    Queen intro update

No, I made split from a strong Nuc making sure the queen was left in the original, the frame that the queen was caged on was a frame of emerging brood. Its been a terrible year for introducing queens for me, thats why I tried this method.

    Queen intro update

I said I would update followers what happened! Well not good news I looked in yesterday and the frame had loads of young bees all emerged with the new queen, and the breeder queen laying dead at the bottom of the cage. Such is life, god only knows what's happened. I'll give it another go next week.

    Queen intro update

I have as I type got a breeder queen in one of the Abelo/Lyson frames cages, I have a frame of emerging bees in the frame cage and the new breeder queen. I'll leave it for a few day and release her when I'm happy that she's laying. I'll post an update in the next few days.

Eggs in queen cups/cells in queen mother’s hive.

You can Nuc the queen after the eggs have hatched, why not then use the same hive which will be Q- to rear your cells. They'll rear 20 cells all day long.

    Blowtorch recommendation please!

I was sick and tired of the 'Chef' type ones, they just stop igniting so today I bought one from 'Tool Station' self igniting for £24.64 (92494). I have a Rothenberger Superfire 2 which I use for plumbing, this is way too expensive to leave in my apiary. Thats why I opted for the cheaper one...

    Honey Pumps

Thats good to know, I only produce around 1700 - 340g jars in a season and the cost of a dedicated pump does not warrant the outlay.

    Honey Pumps

Do any member here use their jarring machine to pump honey? I have a Swienty Table Top Filling Station, the information says it can be used for pumping honey, I would imagine its useful for small quantities.

    Zero waste honey refills

£520 just to sell honey in a store! Did they cover the cost of the tank? I was going to suggest a heat mat like a propagation mat, this would give enough heat to stop granulation. I do like the idea of a jar return scheme and having labels printed with removable glue, just to conform with...

    HMF when liquifying honey.

I set my warmer to 40C, normally it softens overnight, sometimes it needs a stir.
