    Cover Board

All my cover/crown boards are clear, I cut a hole with a 50mm gutter, the piece of clear perspex that is removed is glued onto a another piece and I pop this back in the hole, only ever removed for feeding.

    TradeX

Got there early, was surprised to see a queue on both the 'Cash' and 'Pre-paid' tickets, I think this needs improving for future events. Very busy as the morning moved on, it was good to seen such a cross section of exhibiters there. I did see John T and his 'Gas-Vap' he looked really busy so I...

When I started keeping bees in around 1982, there was an agent for Steel and Brodie just a few miles away in Pontypridd.

    Stand

I make mine 1200 x 460, I make up a frame using 75 x 50 timber, screw the corners and put two brace pieces 460mm from the ends. I then bolt the legs on at a 22 degree angle on the inside of the frame, I cut my legs 300mm long. Hope this helps.

My beekeeping days may be over

My brother last season had the same, it just got worse, he's decided to give up, its just not worth the risk. Yes you can carry an epi pen, but what happens if your reaction is so quick you can't administer it.

    Framing queen excluders

Do you have a circular saw? If not its a pain in the bum to produce a rebate, it can be done by glueing two pieces of wood together to form a rebate. Then I used a half lap join on the corners, I used small brass screws to secure the excluded. I only made 10 as it was cheaper to buy them framed...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Yesterday it was a staggering 13C, I checked sugar blocks on hive, also put a sugar block on my little Apidea, these are still alive and seem to be well. Then painted a few Maisemore and BS Honeybee Nucs.

    Buckfast Abbey

Yes all designed to keep the wooden stands from contact with the wet ground, so many innovations all gone to waste..

    Buckfast Abbey

Oh how I love it when you put pen to paper or in this case fingers to keyboard! However I totally agree with you, I watched a program about alcoholics in Scotland and their favourite tipple was 'Buckfast Tonic Wine' 15%. A post found doing a simple search: "SCOTS are glugging an extra 3,600...

    BS Honeybees

A big heads up for the team at BS Honeybees, I ordered 3 off 2 in 1 Nucs as I had great success last season with mating queens out of them. I paid next day delivery and no fault of BS Honeybees they arrived 5 days later! One in particular was badly damaged, I informed them and within 24 hours I...

here is a picture of Brother Adam's Dadant hives double brood boxed, I think he did this when he was raising queen cells, if you look in the distance you will also see other hives that have double BB's.

    Buckfast Abbey

Thanks for posting that, I have in fact found another picture where his hives have been double BB'd, these must have been his cell raising colonies.

    Buckfast Abbey

Digging my way through loads of photographs and found these, I would guess I took them around 1985-86 on one of my many visits there. I'm sure I have more of Brother Adam and Peter Donavan somewhere.
