    Pam Gregory

I'm presently walking the 870-mile Wales Coast Path, in 4-day stints. We're right down in Carmarthenshire now, with just 200 miles to go, to Chepstow. Whenever we drive down and pass the signs to Tregaron and Llanddewi Brefi (which makes us smile) I think of how Pam would travel up to Conwy...

    Brood Box Castellations

I bought a cheap angle grinder and removed the sharp corners from the castellations in all my empty supers. Yes, it took a long time. It makes it much easier to place frames back in the supers.

Directory of Important World Honey Sources

Eva Crane's books are all very collectable. She visited us at Conwy BKA in 1993. We spent a weekend hunting round North Wales, looking for unrecorded bee boles. She was full of enthusiasm. She kindly signed my collection of her books. Archaeology of beekeeping is my favorite, and it's now very...

    Extractor ckeaning

We hire out Lega 3-frame honey extractors to Conwy BK members. The bottom bearing is a 6mm diameter hardened chrome steel ball. We hold spares, in case users lose the bearing, when they are washing the extractor. Simply Bearings provide a very good service.

    Just extracted very dark honey.

I suggest it is probably honeydew. My bees occasionally collect it. In my experience, any early season honey, eg. sycamore or hawthorn will have been eaten by the bees long ago, and replaced with summer honey. In a good season (like this year) here in north Wales my summer honey is nearly all...

Selling honey through a local shop.

Something for the weekend sir? A jar of honey maybe?

    First extraction

I would include a digital kitchen scale, approx £12 from amazon. I tare and weigh every jar as I fill it. I fill each jar to 1lb 0¼ounce, plus or minus ¼ ounce. The scale soon pays for itself, because you are not overfilling the jars. Filling in pounds and ounces is much easier than filling in...
