Can somebody please recommend a good recipe for Damson & Honey jam. I would like to replace sugar with the honey and/or add honey once at set point. Looking to enter the association honey show classes this year. I have loads of Damsons picked and ready to go.

Difference between Soft Set & Naturally granulated honey

This maybe a silly question but going to ask it anyway I am going to enter some honey competitions this year for the first time and want to make sure I get in the right classes.... Soft set in my world is warming to liquid and either adding a seed and stirring regularly or just stirring before...

    Lincs Bee Auction Today

Had a ride to the bee auction at Lincoln showground. Over 600 lots up for grabs and allot of gear sold in my opinion for peanuts. There were hives and boxes that went for less than if you bought the equivalent as kindling for your fire. As an example There were 3 old but solid top bar hives...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Qrikey, a week ago I had to feed most hives as nothing in the hives. Today they have stuffed the broods with nectar and I may need to remove a couple of frames from most hives to give the queen space to lay. Ivy out in force here in sunny hot South Lincolnshire. All my nucs from my grafted...

What to do with Laying Worker frames?

I have a laying worker hive that has some capped drone brood but mainly multiple eggs in the cells. I plan to shake them out The frames are good condition. What are my options please to reuse the frames? Do I need to do anything to them before adding to other colonies or nucs?

My method for nuc making with virgin queens .

I'm a bit of novice still on queen rearing but find that if I have my 3 frame nucs hopelessly queenless then I just run my virgins in the entrance. Have had very good results doing it this way

    F0 Breeder Queen

For some positive feedback I bought 2 AI queens from Melo bees and found them super helpful. My queens were due to be dispatched on a Thursday when I was away on the Friday. I changed the delivery date by 2 weeks at very late notice and now have 2 great queens I am grafting from. Very Good...

Sad state of affairs at the home apiary!

I checked all my 20 hives and nucs yesterday here in south lincs in the sunshine and was thinking exactly the same. Most only on 4 frames of brood. A couple were on 6 frames. The OSR is starting to yellow up here so what would people do, let them put what they collect into the brood box?

God I love growing our own

Pink fur apple are in my opinion the best tasting you can get. Great hot or cold and store well

    Nuc measurements

Ive gone down a little easier route. Ive got a load of 3rds brood boxes from the sale days. Cut a little bit less than 1/2 and added 18mm offcut sides from local timber merchant. Going to make seperate floors so can use boxes as nucs or double nucs. Very cheap and quick way

Once you found a good spot PH, how do you find out who owns the land or spot? I live in very rural Lincolnshire and have seen some good out the way spots one near a whole load of lime trees and brambles but no idea who the farmer is.
