    Why did they kill her?

Hive swarmed on 13th August. Captured swarm and put in new hive. Spotted virgin queen on 24 August and marked. Looked today to see if she was laying, No. Nothing. Maybe it's too early for her. Then when looking further into the brood box (gently) I saw the bees balling the new marked...

    Any mated queens for sale?

Has anyone any mated queens for sale? It's the third week in August 2011 and I know it's late in the season I do not particularly want Carnolian as I believe that they swarm easily and they can be a nightmare second and third generations.

How to find a wasp's nest? Apparently you sift icing sugar onto them then follow which way they go as they show up white.

Thank you for all your advices - they give me good knowledge for next year - and hopefully not for this year). Its amazing what some cold wet nights can do - after having trickled down some sugar syrup (1-1) on the top of the frames and down the sides, the bees have finally started to takes the...

Help, advice please. Swarm not drawing comb advice

Thanks, I did that yesterday, and today - they are not interested. They are bringing in a small amount of pollen, but not enough to build comb let alone any stores. They must have filled their honey stomachs to bursting as the supers they left behind feel pretty light now. I have put the...

Help, advice please. Swarm not drawing comb advice

I'm stressed!!! I thought beekeeping was supposed to be relaxing. After a week of rain we had one warm day - and I paid for it. Mid afternoon Sunday, one of my hives swarmed onto a nearby tree. I put a spare hive underneath the bough and finally managed to shake the bees into the brood box...

What to do with unsealed supers?

Same question. Or, can you take the supers off even though they are only partially capped, and store them for a while whilst the varroa treatment is in? In the meantime, feed:confused: the bees with sugar syrup?

    Wasp Takeover!!!!

Ditto Wasps invading an apidea yesterday evening, hence too few bees to defend. I've just put 3 wasp traps around it. I've not looked this morning as I guess the few bees that are left in there will be traumatised. Pesky little blighters

    First sting!

Are these motorcycle gloves pretty sting proof? After my last re-action to stings I wore my usual kid/canvas gauntlets with yellow washing up gloves over (sticky hive), and still managed to get stung on my finger

    First sting!

I have had a few stings over the past couple of years. Some of my re-actions are worse than others. I know I have had a bad re-action when I feel a bolt of lightening go through my body. These stings usually end up with my affected part swelling up and becoming very red and hot. The itching...
