WBC style honesty box - thoughts?

It is, that's what's putting me off the idea tbh. I reckon it'll be around £150 delivered however it's also doubling up as a garden ornament and an advertising board as well. I've seen those compost bins and the ones Mark is referring to are about £90 delivered, at that money I think I'd be...

WBC style honesty box - thoughts?

This year I tried an honesty box and things have been going well as it seems to have increased sales without much additional effort. Currently, I have a small black box at the entrance however I'd like to change it to something a bit more eye-catching. I have always liked the look of the WBC...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I do have a ventilated but barely a breeze. Not sure how they do it in places like California.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Started inspections around 9:00 this morning as I knew it was giving a great day, glad I did as this afternoon was boiling; a new record was set for hottest day in NI beating the 1976 record of 30.8 °c; at 31.2°c. All supers put on; put clearer boards on multiple hives with the plan to...

    Over the moon

Never heard that before but I like the nomenclature of calling it crowning rather than marking. Sounds more regal.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Running out of supers despite me buying in more frames and wax than I thought I ever needed - so the only place I could find reasonably priced frames was C Wynne Jones. Arrived this morning and after dinner this evening made up another 100 frames. Intend to add clearer boards to get some...

    Portable Neck Fan

Worth a go for £7, could do with it tomorrow though as giving a scorcher.

How quick to draw and fill super

Depends on the strength of the colony and how good the flow is but I had a strong colony which I put a super of foundation on a Saturday and it had the box fully drawn and bar for the end frames which still had some space on the outermost side it was almost filled by the Thursday. So under a week.

What's flowering as forage in your area

Seems that the Himalayan Balsalm has started yielding as seen the first white bees yesterday afternoon.

    Wasps

Seen one or two lurking but no intrusions that I've seen yet. Usually really starts third week July but will maybe set some traps this weekend.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

My grafts are definitely getting better with practice, my first try was poor at like 3/20, the next go at 0/30 was terrible. Next try they seem to had 13/20 but when I checked back on the day they sealed them they had all but 3 torn down and some cased in the comb. Last try was better at 14/20...

    Just 1 Tree

In Ted Hoppers guide to bees and honey he describes willlow as one of the real must haves. In particular pussy willow - salix caprea; on that advice I planted 30 or so in winter.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

A family member saw bees swarming and landing in a tree, luckily not overly high up so step ladders out and got them shaken into a nuc box. Now need to figure what hive they came out of or if they are even mine. I checked grafts that I did on Saturday, got 13 out of 20 which is a PB for me...

Accepting credit / debit card payments for Honey.

A local strawberry farm has an honesty box at the entrance; in it they have a sumup card reader which I have been meaning to look into for my own use as my honesty box ends up full of coppers and other small change. Looking at the website it appears the one they have is £149 to buy and has a...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Three virgins eclosed in the incubator this afternoon; marked them white and ran two into two queenless colonies and made up an Apidea for the third.

What's flowering as forage in your area

A family friend has been telling me about this plant for the last few years in his garden but didn't know the name so was never sure what it was. I showed him the picture this evening and bingo. Fantastic aroma and covered in bees also although his plant has 5 or more separate flowering...

    Label suppliers -

Quite a few people here use forum mumber Nantmoel for their label design and supply. He could duplicate the label you have or tweak the design further. https://beekeepingforum.co.uk/members/nantmoel.13988/

Bees won’t vacate super - again....

Is the hive queenless? I had one recently that refused to vacate which was queenless at the time.
