I have a 12 frame manual extractor which is slipping all the time. There are two nylon gears and the smaller one connecting the rotating barrel you load the frames into seems to have slipped down. The two gears don't mesh properly and this causes them to slip...and it is getting worse. I wonder...

What prices are you charging? I have been selling 12oz jars for £6 or two for a tenner. The beek up the road selling a 1lb jar for a fiver.

I sprayed all my supers with Dipel last year after extracting....wax moth in all of them in the spring. Possibly didn't use enough, but was gutted!

Do you think that you recover more honey from an electric one? Looking for justification of the cost here!

I have a thornes 9 frame manual extractor (radial) and wondered if I should convert it to electric by adding a motor. Thornes have a motor conversion kit which is pretty expensive at nearly £420. I am thinking that 1.) I would extract a bit more honey from the frames 2.) A lot less effort 3.)...

Get a radial one. I found that I was always breaking comb with a tangential one. You get them nicely cranked up and then bang....comb splattered all over the sidewall.

I have used Jarsandbottles.co.uk for the Hex 12 oz jars and been really pleased in teh past....although been bought by Pattersons. They do special offers on hex jars occasionally too

I use these too. I try to have 5 or 10g over.....any more and I am just giving free honey away.

You can get a corded one for a tenner. I would rather have the hassle of a cord than the wrist ache of a manual one after a dozen frames! Get an extension lead!

I use bamboo skewers. Two skewers vertically through the bottom bar. A couple of taps with a hammer to set the point of the skewer into the soft pine top-bar, pinch the bottom bars together and snap off the protruding end of the skewer flush with the bottom bar, add a blob of pea glue to the end...

Same here. I have two hives in a wood, long way from the carpark but visible now that the vegetation has died down. Footprints all round them and the boxes all askew, bees flying in and out the misaligned boxes rather than the entrance. Fuming!
