Yes but clearly need to apply a thin layer at least every two years. The white spirits helps the linseed oil to penetrate deep and this helps enormously to prevent water ingress. This really helps. The paint seems to help protect that linseed from the sun and I guess slowly leaching out.

I agree except that the tree has branches falling down and there’s not much of it left. The final branch will fall on two of the hives. We have tons of other trees very close by and all sorts of places for various pollinators.

About 2/3 of our hives were really busy today in strong winds. The others (partially shaded) had a staycation - think I need to remove the dead tree causing the partial shade.

I seem to recall watching a YouTube some time back (could be BMH) explains why one should not be tempted to keep the supers on beyond August in order to commence varroa treatment so the colony can prep for winter. … so are the supers worth it at this time of the year?
