Oilseed Rape - tasty honey or not?

My Spring Honey (softset) will contain a majority of OSR (no chance getting away from it) but it will also have Dandelion (also a fast granulating nectar), Hawthorne, Blackthorn and a whole host of other nectars. Personally I like the taste and so do most of my customers. There are always...

The latest date to extract the honey crop?

Another 4 empty supers ( they were not empty a couple of weeks ago!) removed yesterday. Looks like very little to harvest this year but on the upside I haven't needed to feed any colonies yet!

The latest date to extract the honey crop?

No never had a problem with it so far! In fact I removed 3 (EMPTY) supers today and the 2 that I left on aren't ready for extraction yet so I will probably leave then another 1-2 weeks and then decide whether to extract or nadir. In terms of feeding I don't have to worry as I have about 6 deep...

What to do with bees below clearer board?

I clear with a Rhombus board and use a leaf blower for any remaining. I personally wouldn't want to clear all the bees out of a super with it but it does save time when I want to get the last dozen or so out of supers!

The latest date to extract the honey crop?

I tend to do my final extraction mid September, looking back at my records. This year it will be later this week as I'm away working next week and probably too busy the week after!

What to do with bees below clearer board?

Either way will work. I used to knock them off but feel if I have the time I prefer to prop the board in front of the hive entrance and let them walk back in. It's also amazing to watch!

    this season's yield

Due to work commitments and the fact that they are working the HB well I will not be taking off my supers for at least another week. Last time I checked some had full supers and some had pretty empty supers so will be interesting to see when I do take them off if the HB has made much of a...

Keeping bees on somebody else’s property

I pay my farmer 1lbs jar per hive and receive much more than just space at the sides of his fields! However he also receives pollination services!

Wholesale Honey price - for jarred honey

imho the answer is "as much as you can get". Locally produced honey is far too often under rated and priced too low! It also depends on the area the shop is in and what kind of shop they are and therefore what kind of customers they have!

    Extracting from National Brood Frames.

I wouldn't say that! It only started to get ridiculous last year as the stack was high due to large flow of Spring nectar and nothing ready for extraction! This year I never really got above double brood + 6 supers (which was high enough) but tbh they probably needed 1 less super anyway! ** Of...

Large rural garden or Apple orchard.

You'd go that high!!! @ the Op, depends on what surrounds the garden / orchard. Think about forage nearby (fields / gardens) and also visibility from public highways (for security).

In my experience no difference at all.

    Urgent bee starvation

Don't assume that people have to "rob them blind" for a colony to run short of stores! None of my production colonies, that have had honey harvested, have run short of stores at all. It is in fact the Nuc's that don't have a large foraging force that have suffered from the nectar drought. I...

Sorry missed your reply. How did you get on? I guess one of the nearest bka's might be Stockport?

    Urgent bee starvation

Strange year, the only colonies that were short on stores were 3 Nucs (2 x splits + 1 small swarm) and I just added full frames of stores that I had in stock ready for winter feeding.

8 way bee clearers / escapes

Well that was my experience last year compared to this year. Maybe they just hadn't left the supers!!!
