    Apiguard in winter

Yes i thought so also. The article says this is not necessarily recommended by the manufacturer but will give a 50-60percent treatment efficacy. I used oxalic last year but would rather not this year so this caught my eye sent using tapatalk

    Apiguard in winter

Hi In the October edition of the Bbka news magazine there is mention of leaving a tray of apiguard in the hive over winter and to remove two weeks before adding the first super in spring. this is meant for those that do not wish to use Oxalic acid but have a mite issue. Has anyone tried this...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Had the same issue with the bees filling up the eke. I've decided to stop feeding for a week or so and have removed the wild comb. They have enough stores to keep them going till then. Any ideas how to stop them doing this? sent using tapatalk

bees flying in gales and rain ?

The bees i have in the garden are the same. The wind or rain does not worry them. The ones in the apiary a few miles away however keep indoors when its miserable. Both hives are splits from the same source hive. the ones in the garden seem to be more productive though. sent using tapatalk

Sound from hive - what is it?

Thanks for that i did think queen piping but seems a bit too early to have a new queen cell. The new queen has only come into lay and should have hatched on the 18th may. Did leave two sealed cells originally. Never know though. Would the queen make this kind of noise for any other reason...

Sound from hive - what is it?

Hi, Opened up my hive today to check if new queen has started laying. Thankfully she has and I have seen eggs on a couple of frames. No larvae so assume queen only just started laying. When I opened the hive there was a sort of 'quacking' sound I have never heard before. Being in only my...

    When to Perform Split

Thanks all for the informative information. Maybe best I wait a few weeks. My rational was that I had seen sealed drone brood last Friday (25/3) and I had calculated :- Droans Emerges 8/4 mature on 21/4 (assuming other hives in apiary have sealed drones) If I had done the split on Saturday...

    When to Perform Split

Hi, Fairly new at this and have only 1 hive thus far. Wish to increase stock by making a split. Do you think its too early for me to attempt this now. Current setup is a national brood box with 7 frames of brood at all stages. I was thinking of taking out 2 frames of brood plus 1 with eggs...

    Bees jumping on hive tool

Hi, Had a check on the girls a few days ago. Nice and warm here in sunny London. All was going well then for no apparent reason a number of bees kept being attracted to my hive tool. LIke a magnet attracts Iron fillings :). Very odd. The only thing I remember doing before this started was...
