    Poly Hive Glue - Advise

Thanks for advice - went with Gorilla. Oh it certainly does expand but clamps contained it. Thanks again. P

    Poly Hive Glue - Advise

Polynuc super blew over (Galeforce winds) while cleaning and fractured (broke). Is there a recommended glue for Ploy repairs or will most any superglue suffice? I have heard on the wind (no pun intended) suggestions of special glues.

    Moving Supercedure Cell in Sept??

Having considered your replies I combined… best all round solution. Finman two points – yes there are 10 colonies but this does not equate with craft knowledge - swarm management and no winter losses. Queen purchase a reasonable suggestion however, reliable suppliers have advised no Queens...

Bees in P**ynes Poly Nuc feeder

I'm in the same situation. Two poly Nuc Brood boxes - one over the other. The built in feeder is a pain and has been known to drown bees. Blocked mine off* and Association colleagues have actually cut them out for additional frame space. Like you my full hives are wooden but I have brought...

    Moving Supercedure Cell in Sept??

Late in season - Is it feasible to move a supercedure Q cell from colony with eggs to one which is Q- (failed to draw QC from test frame but is attempting to now). Will there be negative consequences for the donor colony?

    Uniting Apedia & Nuc

I note a method of transferring Queen from Apedia directly to Nuc via newspaper method. She is not in Butler cage -just a direct unification with her crew/brood – Any advice/experience using this method before a grave error is made.

    Finding the Pretender

Many thanks for the replies - very helpful. Going to sit a week to see if a late developer (has happened this season) and if not its the rough treatment through a Qx prior to any more Q introductions (some killed). P

4 way Brood Box & Critical Mass

Have 4 laying Q’s in Apedias and am wondering if we used Broodbox divided in four compartments - despite positive warmth variable - come springtime would the (failing) adult bee/brood ratio in each small unit be likely to fall below the critical mass to survive. Often need Q’s in Spring.

    Finding the Pretender

Two colonies Q- who ignore Test egg frames – Think they are Q+ … what is the best method of finding the misfit (Double brood and supers)?

Many thanks PH good to see you about again- Part cryptic ... Novice status and age decrees eyesight would undermine grafting on this first outing.Fingers crossed she obliges.

    Queen to be fed??

Have introduced Queen to Cupkit - bees entering and leaving via excluder - Will they feed her or is it essential to add fondant in the wee chamber?

How many cupreceivers on the bar??

Coming in on two sections - larger net Cup kit system: Making up receiver cell bars. Using national frame. Some source allow 10 units per bar which is pretty tight. Question: Is it feasible to place the receivers 5 well-spaced to a bar without negative consequences. Don’t require that many...

    Too late for Syrup???

Checked hives and one dramatically light I.e. Very little stores despite earlier feeding. Have started feeding syrup again but have been advised its too late in year for this and to feed fondant. Any one been here and can advise? The syrup is being taken down rapidly at present.

    IvyWatch UK and Ireland

Finally, it has decided to blossom this weekend. Not a great display as some have reported - the cold apparently impacting. However, bees are laden with pollen. We had already delivered a second winter feed as hives were getting light. Perhaps this will be the last report for the season - if so...

    IvyWatch UK and Ireland

Still tightly closed here - little like "the watched kettle never boils" .... Bees need it and I fear weather may change (ground frost forecast) before it finally flowers. Looks like we may have to feed again... :hairpull:

    Leaving on Supers

We have had an absolutely miserable season – [Swarming/Queenless colonies/ DLQ’s and Laying Workers]. We are now advised to feed (not without cause). We are considering leaving the supers of honey with the bees. The Brood Boxes are neigh-on bone dry (They moved stores to the supers). Is it...

Q- and Necessity of frame of eggs test

I have a colony which appears Q- – No eggs for 7 days – and laying area being filled with nectar even the free cells in and about the pollen stores plus Bees have become more aggressive. I need to combine with a weaker but striving (frames of eggs). Is it essential in light of the foregoing...

    Bees Flying & Apibioxal

Thanks for replies … Whatever the advantages of Vapour -v- Trickle the application is recommended when brood less. Is it likely that Bees still active (perhaps same in coming weeks) and presently taking in pollen have brood? Will the ‘tricklers’ still trickle if bees out and about? For if you...

    Bees Flying & Apibioxal

As per an earlier thread – Bees out and about today – During week I noted midday temp at 5C all hives very busy but not as much pollen as reported on other thread [We are at some height]. If Bees are bringing in Pollen at this time of year will that allow for some brood rearing? If so and...
