I was thinking of a swarm.

    TBH - entrance?

Thanks for the info Mike, I will definately take note of your suggestions. Your hive does look good, however I dont think I would want that many stingers around mine. Luckily I don't have that big a problem. Will still need to consider all the posts before deciding on end or side entrance. Dave.

    TBH - entrance?

Good idea. I will see if the design I will hopefully be using will enable that. At the moment (having just read your post) I believe that it will be possible. Thanks.

    6 & 3 Litre winter feeders

See previous threads with regards to free split bags of supermarket sugar. Cheapest way forward for me, and produced a split bag of donut covering sugar from one store visit. Worth the time and effort. Dave.

    Own up Rutland Beekeepers!!

I have been to countless car fires and there are many reasons for one catching fire. From my recollection of RAB's account, he had been using it recently and with a smoker in his hand, not in the car, there is every possibility that it ignited through a fault on the vehicle. I have come across...

    The Auction site

Great idea, but with most items 1p less than their buy it now price as a starting bid, I won't be bidding, more likely to be buying direct. Should it be called an auction page or just change it to a buy it now page? Totally removes the chance to get something at a bargain. I understand though...

    Strike ?

It did not state how much percentage of our wages we do pay into the scheme to allow us to be able to retire at that age and with those benefits. Again, selective information that can make certain groups look as if they are getting a lot more than others, but do not disclose the full facts (not...

    Swarm Collectors Map

As a newbee myself, I don't sometimes think that I have the right to voice my opinion as much as those that have been here a long time, however this time I will. This is Admin's site. We all use the site because it is the best site for info , questions, learning and networking. (I bought my 1st...

    Cluster under the hive

Thank you all for your comments. I will go back down to the hive and check it out again based on your input. The reason the newspaper is between the 1st and 2nd super is because (I have read this somewhere!) that when the bees are ready to move up, they will chew through the paper and start...

    Cluster under the hive

There is a landing board, a 3" (fixed?)entrance, one super open, the second placed on today with newspaper between 1st and 2nd. I would say a very strong colony (an un experienced assessment), a lot of bees in the brood box. Pollen still being brought in regularly. Most brood frames full with...

    Cluster under the hive

I inspected my hive today (third week of ownership) and whilst I did not find the queen, did see some newly laid eggs. I closed up, not wanting to leave it open for too long, and then checked underneath, where there is a rather big cluster of bees on the underside of the varoa mesh. Is this...
