    Looking for out apiary

From what I have seen when we have had to do land registry searches at work most land is registered to an owner, tracking that owner down can be another matter. The occasions I have come across where no owner has be registered seem to be limited to things like alleyways and very small pockets. I...

    Looking for out apiary

Agree on the social media or just go old fashioned and identify somewhere suitable knock on a door, shake a hand and seal the deal with a generous few jars of honey. Both approaches have worked for me.

    30lb Plastic buckets

Normally pick up from thornes but have used these for buckets a few time. Speedy delivery and good buckets . Depends on how many you are ordering for delivery costs as they have upped the free delivery minimum order. https://oipps.co.uk/10-l-plastic-white-double-lock-bucket-with-plastic-handle

Fondant or something else for queen rearing in mini nucs.

Can not see the need for extra protein in a mini nuc/mating Nuc. Limited demand for it from the small amounts of brood and plenty of pollen about at the time it's in use. Can see the benefit of boosting protein availability during cell building stage but not mating.

When and how did you start beekeeping?

Started in mid 80s when my dad did a course then caught his first swarm when I was 10. I got interested right from the start and would help him right through my school years. He caught the bug in a big way and ended retiring early and expanding to beefarmer size. Uni and the army meant I was...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Have not got a clue. My herpetology skills run to telling the difference between a grass snake, adder and slow worm but not much more. Not heavily barred on it's back if that's the difference.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Didn't think the middle of the road, no matter how sunny, was the best place for it to be so gave it a bit of gentle encouragement

    Beesuits for Kids

+1 for STBK.maybe not as good as a sheriff etc but they will out grow it before it wears out. My youngest has one and is perfectly fine for his occasional helping. Eldest has a sheriff but he helps me a lot more and is not growing at quite the same rate now (plus bought it with ample growing room)

Supermarket honey price ridiculously low - why?

It was in a small independent office licence/ grocery shop. Not sure where they get them from. Not noticed them anywhere else so presume it's not booker etc.

Supermarket honey price ridiculously low - why?

Think I will pass on that. I imagine I could replicate it by licking the tap of my syrup tank!

Moving a colony into a new hive.

Sounds like you have a plan. Can't see any issues with it, rotating the frames out gradually is sensible. Dayton hives look interesting.

Supermarket honey price ridiculously low - why?

The dumpy round jar had a lump of somthing that alledges to be honey comb in it ( had a look of a specimen in formaldehyde from a biology lab). The squeezey bottle and tall jar are just 90/10 syrup honey mix.

Supermarket honey price ridiculously low - why?

Saw these today. 10% honey 90 % syrup. At least they honestly label it! Though seems totally pointless. Wonder if it tastes just like supermarket honey........
