Winter oxalic necessary if bees treated with oxalic in autumn?

Ol thanks can you correct me please? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk it’s my first oa dribble, I was under the impression it was the ingestion problem, is it the damage to the epidermis Instead ???

Winter oxalic necessary if bees treated with oxalic in autumn?

Oxyalic acid is ingested through the gut with the dribble method and I am lead to believe that it’s only advisable to treat with this method once, due to that reason! Vaporising oxyalic acid only affects the surface of the Bees! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Winter oxalic necessary if bees treated with oxalic in autumn?

I would and do, oxyalic does get the vast proportion of mites if you did treat 7 days apart, ( I would say better to treat 5 days apart and do a fourth treatment) but you may still have some phoretic mites as your bees will be more than likely broodless! Nothing to loose whatsoever other than...

    Hello from snowy Germany

    Hello from snowy Germany

Interesting thank you. Do you feel that the amount of Aphids around do make a difference? ive just asked this in a post on the main forum. When you say wood honey, is that Basswood or lime trees, also known as Linden?

    Hello from snowy Germany

Hello and Welcome, whats you year in terms of flowers, do you have summer heather etc?

Nectar/honey flows will they ever be "like the good old days"

" the good old days" i was really referring to the stories of huge crops or honey that could contain much larger percentages of nectar from aphids (honey dews) i am convinced that in certain areas this has a big impact on natural aphid populations. Cereal producers routinely spray against Aphid...

    setting up mating apiary

Even if your mating station isn't perfect you can bring in more drones than you need and flood the area, or if the area is suitable you could get another beekeeper to bring his best stocks to the area. Theres nothing wrong with flooding an area with desirable traits providing you either feed...

yes i agree, i was thinking about your area too and i suppose with the forest and woods you have in patches nearby there would be no pesticide treatment. Do you ever know of Aphid on your heather which could augment your crops, or in your view is it solely down to flower and plant yield?

Nectar/honey flows will they ever be "like the good old days"

Yes i think thats a valid point about forests! its unlikely that aphids would be affected in forests!

Nectar/honey flows will they ever be "like the good old days"

I really couldn't say as i dont know what other crops they harvest, other than this is a mid May crop, so i assume its whatever they can get too next!

Nectar/honey flows will they ever be "like the good old days"

So this has been on my mind. In Certain years, when for instance lime trees exude lots of sap and at the same time they support huge numbers of aphids, So we have bees bringing in Nectar from honey dew as well as nectar from the usual flowers. We might say that that year was a good year! what...

Winter varroa treatment for nucs - OAV?

However you seal up your nucs, just do whats best for you. we use whatever we can to make it quick and effective. The best thing is foam, strips of it or sheets of it, like old sofa cushions cut up to fit. These are pretty good tools because they fit in to most situations. Having a good calm...

    Asian Hornet, the Devon Initiative

:iagree: as soon as spring founding queens are occupied with continuous laying in nests, its time to just treat individual workers. trophy hunting unless a nest is easily found and accessible, is a waste of resources and time. just treat the workers. job done, quickly and efficiently.

    Drone Excluder / Trap

Off topic for drones so apologies but: Mike, You questioned this before and you said were worried that because your builders were so full, excluding off the front would probably slow down the forager bees and massively increase congestion, but...... have you other thoughts now? Thats the very...
