    Rainy day between sunny ones

Yes because the high humidity from the rain(over the leaves) reduces the stress and makes the plant exude more nectar from the flowers, rather than losing water through the leaves in an effort to keep cool. High humidity slows down "evapotranspiration" so even if the roots are dry because the...

Glueing ID Discs to Queens Thorax

I never thought of disconnecting the magnet, I though it would be so weak that it would only just hold her and wouldnt need a huge amount to release her! I confess, my discs are plastic too! Metal Ones are "trop cher"!! Bought them from Icko over here, 5 euros per 100! But they look good! Great...

Glueing ID Discs to Queens Thorax

Hi all. Anyone have much experience of actually attaching the tiny marker id tags to queens thorax's? I have no experience with this and always used to wait until the queen was mated, however, since I've been using the incubator, its soo much easier to mark them before they go off and mate...

Thanks for posting these Pics Mazzamazda. The principle of checking your brood nest meticulously EVERYTIME you inspect is so important, no matter who you are, where you keep your bees and how you keep them. This is a brilliant example of how every odd pin hole should be investigated. If its...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Yes, been out this evening and supering, brood checks, made up another couple of nucs. Suddenly beekeeping has become enjoyable again. forecast...

    Yield off beans

Thats interesting. :iagree:, but saying that, they grow a lot of Bio beans here, their strictly not Bio, as there is chemicals used on other crops nearby, but their not treated apart from natural chemicals(soap solution against aphis etc). I've known one of my beekeeping buddies had a couple of...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Finally got back in to the home apiary, last three days too cold with stupid nagging northerly wind and drizzle, Not to mention the Family and Easter grrrr, Putting up a sign at home now, "do not disturb until October" however bees are good. Most brood factories now on 5 over 5, after being...

    Yield off beans

Depends on your weather. You need good temperatures in the 20's and lots of rain prior to the flow. Tt can be really good, but you need it right otherwise not worth the move.

yup, we could be well in to our second super by now, but lucky if one is filled this spring. cold here, max 13 again. blossom going over quickly, no rain for 5 weeks and only apple left now really!! still colonies are good but very frustrating, that beekeeping personified!!

Pear Tree waiting for the bees but they are going t'other way to the ****

:iagree: Yes its annoying, i have about 40 fruit trees, lots of bees in the garden and three apiaries nearby and also Tons of OSR, however, if you wait and watch, there lots of other small wasps and tiny insects, not to mention solitary bees that do like a nice pair (tree):drool5:

    Queen problem, virus maybe ?

It does work well! Peter Little does it a lot too. You have to have a laying queen, laying, swapped with a laying queen, otherwise they may well reject her ! I would not use this method unless I was absolutely sure about it, but it really does work. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Queen problem, virus maybe ?

I had one like that last week, gave her the hive tool test (she failed again), reintroduced another one directly and a frame of emerging brood, now their just cruising. https://youtu.be/Q5Y9pgbhVSk
