    Security.

The only criminals that ever get caught are the stupid ones. Oh and another twist from recent years, try not to have the tops of your hives in a light colour, or in a straight line. As google Earth 'can' be used by the hell bent on stealing bees brigade to locate your hives in a remote place...

    EFB

There's a page on bee base that lists the outbreaks by 10 km square, Beebase - Beekeeping information resource for Beekeepers to get any deeper into the location you'd probably need to talk to your local bee inspector, although you may come up against the GDPR and they can't tell you much.

Advice on making a bee hotel?

Here's a slightly more commercialised version of bee hotels that you might find useful? https://www.masonbees.co.uk/ they claim their method protects red mason bees from predation, but there is a commercial side to their operation too.

    Sole Trader/Tax question.....

Is that £1K turnover, that is the amount you make from your sales, or profit, that is the amount you make after you've taken off all your expenses including a wage for yourself. I am not an accountant, but there's an old saying "Turnover for vanity, profit for sanity". To put that in context...

    Cleaning solid floors

When I had my four hives two were on mesh, two were on solid floors. As far as I could tell there was no difference between the two. All hives were wooden commercials and all had standard front entrances.

Teenage science (don’t come at me with pitch forks)

The Wikipedia page on this plant seems to suggest that it was only made illegal very recently in 2016 Salvia divinorum - Wikipedia as 'metoday' says he was a teenager when he tried it and is now twice that age it's quite possible that it was legal to consume it when he did so. Some of the...

    Nuc stolen in London

Sorry for your loss. Unfortunately the rural crime unit round here tells my association that most bee thefts are done by people who know enough to get rid of any distinctive markings on the hive or frames before selling them on. So the chances of an orange nuc turning up for sale is fairly...

Bees nest in roof somewhere ??

One thing you will need to be aware of is that tree bumblebees don't like vibration, so no operating power tools near them especially saws and drills. Loads of info on this webpage: Tree Bumblebee Bombus hypnorum - Bumblebee Conservation Trust

Is this the swarmiest spring ever?

I usually point people who contact us about tree bumblebees to this page on the Bumblebee conservation trust's website. https://www.bumblebeeconservation.org/tree-bumblebee-bombus-hypnorum/ Oh and I ask them to read the bit about vibration. I play down the bit that suggests beeks will remove...

    Caught Swarm Question

There is another possibility, unbeknown to your neighbour he's had bees in his roof for a number of years and what he was seeing were the bees in the roof swarming out to look for a new home, the swarm you found. Not looking to enter the roof for the first time.

Bees in roof any tips for removal

The other thing your mate needs to be aware of is that right now all that wax and honey in his roof is defended to the death by the bees. As soon as you remove the bees, if you or he doesn't ensure full removal of the comb, well you've just left a free food source for every living thing in the...

Bees in roof any tips for removal

If it's any help my local association recommends this company SwarmCatcher - Live Honey Bee Removal and Relocation Specialists UK they seem to be great for chimneys and presumably do roofs as well. Some of our members like doing roofs but if you approach from inside it will get very warm and...
