    Moved to double brood today

Thanks PH. I thought they were strong last year, that wad clearly my ignorance, this year is something else entirely. I now understand when ive read people cautioning new beeks on what a strong hive actually is.

    Moved to double brood today

Point taken gratefully PH, will they be ok if left as they are or would you recommend me altering configuration to your suggestion. There are so many bees, literally bursting, masses flying, orientating, just a huge amount daily, i realize now what bursting or a full healthy hive is !

    Hives not broodless yet

2 of my hives have not gone broodless yet. Ive been checking since beginning of december with observation boards in and im still getting capping on it. Its warm down south snd my bees have been flying most days, would that affect the queen not going off lay? I thought it was day length that...

Will my bees run out of space?

Yesi have thought of all these points. I guess im double guessing as this strange summers weather had my bees back filling the brood box tillthey had no room for brood and largely ignored the super on top. Perhaps my bees need to read tom sealy.

Will my bees run out of space?

Im in the same position as you simon. Being in south its warm. Bees are prolific foraging at the moment. I had put supers under my hives for bee space but am worrying that the way they are bringing it in at the moment they will be using the brood space for filling instead. Just been out on a...

    Messy cut out

Can i ask for learning purposes, this late in season were they put into drawn frames? Or Did you cut out their comb and transfer? If they went into nucs to collect them and then put into hive will they have enough brood and stores for winter? Can a colony start from scratch this time of year?

    apiguard, no eke

Jenkins my bees have an entire super of space to store in. I put one on for extra room some drawn some foundation. Theyve ignored it and filled the eke space.

    apiguard, no eke

I just took my last apiguard tray off one hive. I had used all my single bee space ekes so used one thats about 3" deep that i had spare. Well what a mess i found. Comb nearly everywhere across the whole area filled with syrup. Arrgh! As im down south and temps are still warmish i decided to...

    Badly behaved Bees

My nuc had got more aggressive the more established they got so i requeened earlier in the year. My two placid buckfast hives have got a tab more snippity when ive been going up to top up feed. Im happy that its because theyre protecting their stores and will not be like this in spring.
