    Swarm, no brood, virgin, wha'?

First inspection of a packed hive 2-3 weeks ago, huge activity, tons of sealed and OB. Then the weather came and there was no inspection. I was planning Monday, yesterday. Then whilst fixing bikes in the garden, a swarm, I watched it initiate. I even waited quizzically at the entrance to see if...

    Poo streaks across the entrance

Please look at attached pic. This is a thriving hive. I'm going to open up today. Any suggestions on what to look for actions please.

    Immediate Demaree?

Yes Stephen...8 or 9 hives in Syon and then another 6 or 7 down the road where I live. You should pop down one day for a field trip....Its a beautiful space.... I had swarm signals end of April 20 which matches pretty close to your experience....Ive got 3 or 4 going gang busters already....

    Immediate Demaree?

Thanks all... nurse bees are the area of awareness that needs attending to then. There will be a balance between those attending to the now heavy capped and emerging population above and those dealing with pre-lay cell preparation and post lay egg maintenance e.g. brood food. I've read a little...

    Immediate Demaree?

If i wanted to Demaree, even later, i wouldnt want to add a second BB now.

    Immediate Demaree?

I get your point but there has to be method, an application and style. Mr Demaree was not a bee.

    Immediate Demaree?

Some, doubtless you included, would call it stupid and pointless. Others might call it "developmental research" or at the very least, an interesting experiment. I'll charge on in the name of the latter and report back as to what happens. There seems to be a decent harvest of new drones from...

    Vicious bees

:iagree: Or, if they are truly and totally still horrible, shake the NUC out and let them disperse.

    Immediate Demaree?

Full (ie boiling with bees) single brood with 6 full, good pattern capped brood frames moved up in new BB along with 2 more half-full-capped brood frames. HM and replacement all-drawn frames below (remaining 3 frames were stores). One new empty, drawn framed super between with 2 x QE bordering...

    Immediate Demaree?

Have you tried it? What happens? Or if not and its a theory, what do you reckon would happen? To be clear, full coverage of all frames with maybe 6 good frames of good pattern capped brood, no drones and a single new, drawn, super... (You can guess, Ive gone ahead and done it with one hive....I...

    Immediate Demaree?

First inspection I've got a couple of single broods bursting....also probably 4 to 5 full capped brood. No drones though...can I demaree or should I wait for drones on the scene?

    Using lavender in your smoker.

I have used (very) dried cow pats on defensive bees and noticed a marked difference following a tip from an African beek. Smells surprisingly good to the human nose.

    Righto...will get them on..cheers

    MAQS in September

Ive not treated by colonies this year- Mite load has been low and manageable but enough to give them some MAQs. Question is when? It looks like I might get some HB honey so should I wait until I extract any (probably end of September early Oct) and do it then or now when the colony is still...

    no summer flow yet

Monster Summer here in West London, near Syon Park and Kew Gardens, at least by our standards. Mainly because of excellent success with Demaree manipulations but reduction in hedge and tree cutting plus good weather for the parks has seen steady flows. That said, its slowed right down this week...

    Low in stores

Im in West London with an apiary at Syon Park and a bridge over the river to Kew Gardens. So steady, beautifully varied forage. Have had massive yield year but much quieter now as bramble stopped. Hoping the river clean up mob will stay focussed on other things and not tear down the HB which is...

    Robbing? Or something else?

Prediction correct...all bees were back to order the next morning. I wonder if nurse bees block the lower brood area with feeding excitement causing the foragers to experience a "long tail back from the services". Sent from my SM-G986B using Tapatalk
