I don't think an underhand policy of "shrinkflation" is the way to go. The customers will see through it and it insults their intelligence. Ask Toblerone how it went for them!

There is another option - don't feed routinely. Leave enough honey in the hive to last all winter. Monitor stores by weighing the hive periodically. Only feed if they are in danger of starving, which they won't if you leave enough.

Have you not inspected since mid-June? Have you performed an alcohol wash to test for Varroa and not just casually looked in the hive? Are the Qs present and laying?
