    Queenless dilemma

Hi all I have a hive which was queenless so purchased a mated queen in June. Made them hopelessly queenless and introduced. When I checked 7 days later, there was no eggs/larve/brood. I added a frame of eggs from a another colony. When I checked today there was several queen cells but we're all...

Double Brood Box or Brood Box & Super?

Hi A further question. Is it a good idea to add both a (deep) brood box & (shallow) super at the same time to a colony? My reasoning is as the honey flow is now on they can draw comb on the foundation and if they need it they can draw comb in the brood box.

    Backfilling nector in BB

Just to add to this thread, I had another issue. Had a hive with a super (90%filled with nector). The hive swarmed and only couple frames of bees remained. The super has been empty of bees. Is this okay to be kept on the hive or do I need to take any action?

Double Brood Box or Brood Box & Super?

Hijust been reading through this valuable thread. Just wanted to ask, I inspected today and the bees had drawn out comb on 9/12 frames of foundation that was added 1 month ago. Given the UK has now passed 21st June should I add a double brood or go for a honey super instead?

    Backfilling nector in BB

Shall I just store them in a nuc that's in my shed? Does the new super go above or below the one that's getting full. Thanks

    Backfilling nector in BB

Hi I have a hive that's hopelessly queenless and prepared to introduce to it a mated queen. Today I went to introduce the queen and noticed the bees have filled the frames in the brood box with nector. The hive has 2 supers: Top super - filled 90% 2nd super (above BB) this has a couple...

A/S and unite at the same time

Thanks, your suggestion is logical. It's overwhelming and I have been overthinking. Thought I could do a A/S and unite at the same time. I will treat as separate hives and apply an action to each individually. Thanks

A/S and unite at the same time

And at the same time I can nuc the queen?

A/S and unite at the same time

Hi I have 2 hives H1- 2021 Queen H2 - Queenless If H1 throws QC's, can I undertake a A/S and unite at the same time with H2? If so, how? Thanks

    Full brood box..

Why don't you add a shallow brood box. Will help you manage the colony without it being too big and hopefully the brood in the middle frames will start emerging soon and the queen can re-lay in them frames.

    Combining two hives.

So if I understand correctly, format will be: BB (Q+, original position) QX Super QX + newspaper BB (Q- moved colony) QX Super

    Failed AS

Ta. So what's the solution? Should I temporarily remove the super and feed syrup?
  19. M

    Failed AS

Thank you. What are crystalised frames? How do I make 5kg sugar as 30% syrup? Also, if feeding syrup do I still give even with supers? Will they not store the syrup in the supers?

    Failed AS

No flow at the moment. They haven't been filling the super.
