    Weather

In Leeds it's what, in the days before every car was shod with "summer tyres" we'd call a little bit of snow.

    NBU Job

There was I, when I got the email about the job, thinking I was being headhunted because my wise contributions to this forum had been noticed by the good and the great. I even thought that JBM might have sent them my name. And now I find it was just a round robin.

    One size box

Presumably, if you're posting in response to the OP's question, you only use shallows, and don't use national deeps.

    One size box

For brood, yes. But it would be too heavy for most of us to handle as a honey super. The OP was wondering about using just one size of box. If doing that I believe that the rose is the ideal compromise. You don't have to follow Tim Rowe's method.

    One size box

It's bigger. It will hold more brood or more honey.

    One size box

Rose boxes are a far better size than shallows both for brood and for honey. If I could get poly rose boxes I'd use them as supers on all my hives.

    We get everywhere...

I sold my Moto Guzzi V7II four years ago, but still have my helmet, jacket and gloves just in case. The kevlar's been cut out of the jeans and they're now my beekeeping trousers. The bike I sold to get the Guzzi was a 54 Velocette MSS and its predecessor was a 64 Norton Electra. Old British just...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I stood beside my garden hives for a few minutes and saw my first pollen of the year. Now I know spring is nearly here.

Newbee interested in Hive Scales - Any experience of Beeportal.net

My bee buddy bought a set out of curiosity. They're a toy, nothing more. But it's fun watching the fluctuations when there's a good flow on. On all but the one hive we use luggage scales.

The law and bee keeping , the use of agricultural land for bees

A covenant can only be enforced by the person with the benefit of the convenant. The council have no dog in the fight unless they were the landowner who imposed it, as in the case in point. But a covenant is not a planning matter, and the planning department will not be involved in enforcing one.

The law and bee keeping , the use of agricultural land for bees

The first house I owned came with a covenant preventing me from grinding bones and boiling blood. Damn, so much for black pudding.

The law and bee keeping , the use of agricultural land for bees

I've never been involved in agricultural law and am too long retired to have contacts to call on. But I believe that bees are livestock. We had a thread about that some time ago. Get the planning officer to put his objections in writing, with his authorities. It may give him pause for thought...
