    Wasp protection

I've had a lot of trouble with wasps on a new apiary in an Orchard attached to a plant nursery. I've come across a couple of products, Wasp Out and Wasp Gate both of which may be an improvement on simply narrowing down the entrance. Has anyone tried either product or any other that they can...

    Zero Harvest Returns

My bee buddy is nearly 20 years younger than me, 6 inches taller and goes to the gym regularly. I'm trying to persuade him that next year we can demaree one of our 14x12s, reunite the bees and let them fill up and cap the upper box. He's not keen.

    BBKA membership

That's a useful summary. Thanks. £7 for a book on the law makes it almost attractive, but I've been disposing of such things this last 10 years.

    BBKA membership

I've not got or seen a copy of either book but believe that most of the cases cited are American and have little or no relevance to us. Could you give brief details out a couple of the English cases please, so we know where peril might lie.

    Why have I no Varroa?

You can have some of mine if you feel you're missing out.

What's flowering as forage in your area

I would imagine so, unless they prefer the HB lining the field edges between the apiary and the sunflowers.

What's flowering as forage in your area

Harewood bridge has been closed for repairs for several weeks, so I've had to approach my apiary on the far side of the Wharfe from a different direction. It's open again this week and when I went to inspect I couldn't believe what I found in flower just a few hundred yards from the apiary.

    What to do

While we took a reasonable spring crop in early June the wet weather has done us no favours. An apiary of 6 hives is going to give us virtually nothing this month. But all the hives have 2 supers virtually full of unripe honey. It'll be long and unrewarding work to spin it off and feed back to...

Given 3.5 acres of land for an apiary

Whether you call them brood boxes or deeps, they're bloody heavy when full of nectar. Do you have the strength to manage an entire apiary of them? Why not try rose boxes as supers? You don't have to follow Tim Rowe's method of working them.

    Uniting two colonies

Go to the hive you're moving just as it's getting dark and put an entrance block in. Move it the following morning. At most you'll only lose a few dirty stopouts, and even they may hitch a ride under the floor. Put the hive you're moving above on top. Inevitably some will fly out and get lost as...

Making a nuc to over winter

It's a big county. Can you narrow it down a bit?

    This year's honey price

Last year I sold 340g jars at the garden gate for £6, and £5 to shops and others taking 10 or more jars. Everything is going up. I'm looking at increasing by £1. Are you putting your price up this year, or holding it?

    New hive

Suze, the replies to your original post will help you understand how the forum works. Some will comment helpfully on a post straight away, some will ask questions to help them grasp what you're asking and enable them to better reply, some will immediately be unnecessarily critical and some will...

    New hive

Good. Now Pargyle wondered about the spacing in your hive. How many frames do you have in the box?

    New hive

Suze, experienced beekeepers are saying they are seeing something wrong. Let's consider it. Are the dead bees from your hive? If so,they drones and are they above the queen excluder?

    LimeWatch UK

Leeds has been bone dry since March. I'm holding out very little hope for the lime and for the blackberry.

The buds on the lime trees in the park across the road look poor shrivelled little things compared to last year.

    Honey selling

I agree. If I'm putting my name to it then it has to be mine. It's a matter of pride.

    Site for apiary

I mentioned this a few years ago but got no interest. A friend lives just off the A120 north of Coggeshall and has a field behind his house in which he'd like to have someone place some hives. It's very private with easy access. Were he nearer I'd be there like a shot. Is anyone interested?

Nasty behaviour in the veggie plot

Head butting is a way of marking you as a friend. Oh, sorry, that's cats.
