    How to encourage comb building

Hello again JBM... Sugar honey frames will be fed to removal colonies and trap outs.... Then put straight back into brood production frames for the same colony then later rotated up into supers... We only use lang brood frames here for supers..

    How to encourage comb building

No problem here, I have 10 strong colonies.... I count frames of bees to calculate... 7 to 8 frames on a 10 frame langstroth brood box full of bees... strong brood through at least 6 frames - both sides.... Good healthy girls....

    How to encourage comb building

Thanks Murox, currently slotting empty frames in-between drawn out frames.... just going so slow... (I'm blessed with almost no patience at all) :-) Was going to start feeding sugar water as you recommend.... I still have about 200 kg's.. Any other tricks / silver bullet type of thing? ;)

    How to encourage comb building

Looking for some serious advise and or guidance please. I am trying to encourage comb building in 10 plus colonies.... (7 / 8 frames of bees in 10 frame Langstroth Deeps) Honey harvest or value is of no concern, All i'm after is some well drawn comb using starter strips on Lang brood frames...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Quarantine colonies getting second brood boxes... Populations booming here .... Great to see good strong colonies doing what they were designed to do... Wild "Problem" colonies caught and given (In my opinion) more suitable housing.

Just put my specs on..... Although I have NO experience with Varroa,,, this looks like Braula to me... Heavy infestation though... Re Braula - I do stand to correction??

    What's happening here?

I believe I see the queen, a couple of drones as well as a few laying workers.... I'm interested to see how some would handle this... (In the past I have shaken head then shaken out) 1.) Shake out 2.) Pinch old queen and shake out 3.)Add frame of young larvae 4.)Re-Queen... 5.) Additional options?

The wife asked me if I'd seen the dog bowl..... I Said: "To be honest, I didn't even know he played Cricket!"

    Two types of orientation.

I dont know about "Mass Orientation" ? Have never been fortunate enough to see a virgin queen leave on her mating flight... Have seen swarms coming in but never out..... (Dont spend enough time in apiary) However! Orientation flights..... That I see a lot of.... In my neck of the woods this...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Some new tenants in the quarantine area.... Some of those darker/angrier girls.... Couple of weeks then off to new home...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Another one today... double header,,, turns out a smaller hole opened up into another colony ? (boxed as one colony with only one queen found...) Snakes always a concern this time of year... Wide awake and very active..

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Relocation of another problem colony.... Started stinging cattle staff and the more inquisitive young heifers... As soon as theses older and larger colonies get to a certain size they become very protective.... 9 good frames of brood and a really decent chance to do well for themselves again...
