A hive, a nuc and a cardboard box - what to do next

Thanks for the update. I'll check my bait hive! Thanks in advance, neighbour! Dusty

    Full super: remove or leave?

Leave it on. The less we mess with bees (sorry, "bee's" - house style) the better. They know what they're doing. And it's gratifying to see a tower block in your apiary. But, remember, put new supers under fuller supers. And you may need help to lift them off for inspections. Dusty.

    Manchester Cathedral

Yes, interesting time that was. Just my luck. The roof being replaced just as one of the colonies turned nowty. Three of the roofers got stung. The RBI suggested culling the hive - and I very nearly did. But I didn't think it would look good in the headlines: "Cathedral Canon is a mass...

Keeping swarms just breeds swarmy bees (?)

That's my next project after inventing an anti-gravity machine. Dusty

    a taste of honey

Don't put yourself down, JBM. You've honed that skill to a fine art on this Forum. :D Dusty

    Shading Hives.

But it sounds as if the yield is less than 10lbs per hive per year. How lucky we are. Dusty

    New to your forum

Welcome to the mad house Crispin. Look forward to hearing of your past and present adventures in beekeeping. Dusty

Ahem, guess what I did today?

You certainly are Kaz! And to reassure you, I inspected the Cathedral hives this morning. The nuc with your beautifully marked queen, has successfully united with the failing colony. She's laying and I combined the brood into one box. The queen says, 'hello' by the way. Dusty

    Moving a hive 90 degrees?

The answer to that is to charm the veg. gardener. Offer to do a bit of digging for them or weeding when they're on holiday. And get a spare suit and introduce them to your bees. I find even nervous people get intrigued by bees when the see they're no hide threat. Dusty

    Wales i Salute You

But those days have already returned, JBM! Europe is united - in despair and incredulity at English stupidity! (Scotland is included in those sentiments, of course.) Good on you, Wales! Give Jonny foreigner a right good biffing! England is behind you. A long way behind you. Dusty

    Pass it on

yeah! Someone like, Nigel "Yer not larfin now" Farage. Or Boris "The Incredible Shrinking Violet" Johnson. Or "Brutus" Gove. Ye gods! Did 17million people really go over the top for those ***** generals? What a tragedy. Dusty

Ahem, guess what I did today?

You did ok, kid! Better than the time I was showing novices how to do it at our BKA apiary. I held the bottle in one hand, the brush in the other, marked the queen beautifully, returned the frame to the brood box - and poured lovely green paint all over three frames and about 20 bees, in the...

    Dusty's bees.

Sorry. I decided to collect up all the rain that they wanted in Greece, and give it to our pour (geddit?) southerners. Dusty.

    Dusty's bees.

Yes, all is well. Thank you to Kaz for looking after them. Sorry you didn't get chance to do more, Kaz, because of the weather. To compensate, whilst out in Greece I invested in a little enterprise. I wonder if you would mind babysitting these for me, Kaz?

Not at all. Don't mention it. D

    Dusty's bees.

Hi Kaz. I've PM'd you. Adam is a paramedic. Does night shifts regularly. No rain here in Greece. Too hot to sleep; 38 degrees tomorrow..... Dusty

    Dusty's bees.

Kaz, don't fret. You've been more than kind in offering to help. A really responsible beek wouldn't have gone away! Trying to juggle weather and access and assistance, isn't easy. If they go, they go. Maybe they will hole up in the swarm catcher? Last I heard from my son, that was all quiet...
