Two years in and I think I am queenless!

Of course it's possible to be a beekeeper AND do the cooking. Just saying. 😉

    Chalkbrood

Thanks everyone, there is a handful max of *evident* chalkbrood on each brood frame, but a pepperpot brood pattern throughout suggesting other larvae were affected but removed? The colony otherwise appears to be quite strong and well on its way to filling a second super. I'll plan to...

    Chalkbrood

So pleased to hear, I hate the idea of a shook swarm. Thanks for your reassurance 😊

    Chalkbrood

I have a colony with low levels of chalkbrood, would you recommend a shook swarm to replace the comb or could I undertake a Bailey comb change or even demaree to replace the brood comb? Do I also need to requeen? Thanks

    Swarm Season

I haven't fed any of my colonies over winter. Zip/nada/ nothing. But already 6 out of 8 are preparing to swarm? 😔

Supermarket honey price ridiculously low - why?

Just like there are "vegetarians" who eat fish? 🤔

Hmmm .... significant numbers of drones on October 22nd

This thread has given me some hope, I have a nuc (a small cast swarm I collected) which are superseding... new queen emerged 19 October. I wasn't expecting a successful mating but maybe there's still time. Here in Devon the weather has been exceptional and the bees have been flying like a summer...

What do you do with your honey money?

I put mine in a pot which has to be broken to open. All cash payments (some are paid direct to my bank account) have been put in there starting last year. I have no idea how much is in there, its going to be a great surprise when I have to break it open because it's full 🙃

    Damaged Supercedure cell, what now?

In so glad you posted this. I have just hived a colony which was hanging in a tree and 2 weeks later found capped and uncapped what I believe to be supersedure cells. Thinking it was too late I knocked them back and added feed (low stores, like you I thought maybe they were blaming the...

    No sense of timing.

In my limited experience, bees swarm when they swarm. I've had one go in early September. Just be thankful that the new queen mated successfully and is laying so well? 😊

    Replacement motor for Lyson Extractor

I would love to convert my manual extractor, does anyone have, and be willing to share, a step by step guide to how they have approached this? Basic enough for someone with no experience preferably 🤞😁

    Apivar lead time ...

I'm using Apivar for the first time this year too, I left the inspection boards in and started to see drop after 24 hours. I've just done a full count (just out of interest) on all my hives and the highest was over 600, after 5 days. So it must start working straight away, it will be...
