    Does foundation go off?

I bought some foundation earlier this year that was produced in 1998 and sealed in the box. Absolutely bone dry and brittle. Very pale. Got them into colonies and they turned it into beautiful golden wax in 48 hrs. Hairdryer does work to revitalise but its not necessary for the bees. They...

Preemptive Demaree…does it have to be?

Just seen this thread. There are numerous people on here with WAY more experience than me! My advice is to try new things and see what works for you. I tend to use the demaree as a proactive measure and find it very effective (hence the video). I included the reactive elements as its a...

Is this the swarmiest spring ever?

I am putting it down to the cost of diesel/easy winter/beautiful spring.

Jolanta™ Early Season Mated Queens - IN STOCK

I was kinda hoping Murray was gonna answer this one ;) We mooted the possibility of splitting the lines by Buckfast/Carnica as opposed to JolantaTM buts it's not as simple as that as the Buckfast/Carnica lines are not pure lines as they are bred in UK mating sites with a variety of high pedigree...

    Original Abelo poly hives

If you have 5mm at the top and 5mm at the bottom, the rails would lift it flush to a BBS hive and leave you 10mm at the bottom. I reckon the bees would respect 10mm as a single bee space and there would be no issue. It does looks like an Abelo steam moulded hive with black plastic inserts but...

Thanks. Even for my own sanity! 😀

    Checkerboarding

For those that can bear it, watch the first 90 seconds and give me your honest opinion. Does it seem like a method that I am vouching for or something that's quite clearly an experiment and a bit of fun

    Checkerboarding

If you watch my videos I add both of those caveats in. Saying that its fully untested and I am sceptical of the results. If it fails, which it probably will, then I'll show the failures. If they swarm, I'll show the colony that swarms and analyse the aftermath. Just because I have filmed a...

    Checkerboarding

What is so beautifully ironic about your closed mindedness is that people would have been as negative about poly hives 50 years ago. Do I think checkerboarding is the silver bullet to swarm management? Do I think everyone is going to shift over to concrete hives? Quite clearly not. Are they...

Surely its all about waiting for 'The Show' to be announced for mid January? Or dare I say it - 'The' - A Christmas spectacular?

    Abelo 12 frame hive

Possibly, but no more than placing a standard flat excluder onto the top of frames within a BBS system like the national. Bit of smoke to move them down before you add the super on should limit casualties.

    Abelo 12 frame hive

Standard 460mm x 460mm excluder sits on top of the rebate and maintains the top bee space. It sits up against the bottom the super frames but is easily levered away. That's how I run mine. I am not keen on the smaller size QX that sits directly on the frames.

    Correx nuc transport boxes?

BS Honey Bees version is by far the best one I have found on the market. Its actually got mesh as ventilation as opposed to a few pin holes.

    Beetradex update

I went and had a great time. I really like the location of the event. Kind of works for a lot of people across the UK. The Bee Equipment corner was very well stocked but the queue was rather long :( The cheap bee suit shop also seemed to be doing very well. I'd wager every company that...
