Dealing with an apairy of too-defensive colonies

We euthanized twenty eight colonies last year on advice from the SBI, they were totally unmanageable. Two days after they arrived a worker took seventeen stings while opening the field gate 500 yards from them, and it just got worse from that point on. Tractor driver in adjacent field stopped...

    Battery options

Milwaukee are my favourite, but power tools are definitely a personal thing. I looked at the battery option for keeping Apiaries tidy, but went with a small straight shafted husqvarna for the issue already mentioned, battery types are very limited and a blade can not be used. Stihl have a...

    Swienty breeze suit

We both have three breeze suits apiece & find the veil to be a pain. I do have one with a lady who is modifying a fencing veil to fit. i will post pictures when it comes back, overall they are a good suit, but my oldest which is now in its third season is starting to look like a bag of rags.

Where do forum members (those who buy their queens) buy their queens from?

Buckfast Wales, ,Jolanta, Italian & Scottish, direct, BHP for many years, Border honey, Marco Melo ( Kangeroo line breeder). Tried a few from mbc which unfortunately didn't suit our system. Certainly not a reflection on the stock though.

    Contracts with landowners

I suspect if we presented this to any of our landowners, we would lose a lot of acreage. One thing farmers Do not like are contracts, mutual respect is worth more than a piece of paper. Stockists are a different matter, most of them we are signing contracts with, as generally if they are not...

    Your glove of choice!

I use the most cost effective nitrile I can find, the OH uses Gruffs Orange nitrile gloves. I sometimes use them myself & have gloves that survived four uses and three times through the washing machine.

    SMIF

I was being tongue in cheek as at this moment, I’m struggling just to breathe And feel quite light headed. I suspect the Etanercept & Leflunomide im taking will out compete any claimed medicinal property’s that even the fabled manooky stuff may bring. I noticed Haematology mentioned. If I start...

    SMIF

Certainly not working for me this week. I am on immunotherapy and have honey on/ in most things. Picked up a chest infection last week from a ill co-worker, this morning my peak flow was below 140 and was almost sent to hospital, but stiff objection dissolved that silly idea. I do have oxygen...

Can you use aluminium material when processing honey?

Not really From my experienc. many years ago I left some heather comb offcuts in a aluminium butchers tray, and it turned the tray black on the contact side

    Cut Comb frame.

Never tried spinning sections out, but we do spin our rounds. The extractor cage is slightly modified to accommodate Manleys which helped. Would imagine hanging sections should be ok to spin, but they are ridiculously fiddly and I really don't like the plastic inserts.

    Best before and Lot numbers?

The print company I previously used supplied us a small sato printer. It was matched to the label rolls and we just fed them through to print lot & best before. To be honest though, it was far to much faff, and the EX wouldn’t let me have the printer back, now the label company put a five year...
