Just for some fun.... an excuse to smile.

Are you calling for some sort of Reform?

    Mail Order Queens

The fact there isn't one and that the whole 'I keep local/native bees' concept is risible. Any selection by the beekeeper means the population moves away from being locally adapted stock- if the beekeeper knocks down some queen cells as part of swarm control or dispatches queens with...

    Mail Order Queens

If it's not got more depth than in the trailer then it's pretty safe to put it in the propaganda box. Agree it's very nicely shot. I've deleted the rest of what I was going to retort!

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Didn't have the kit or time spare at that apiary to do it although in hindsight might have been able to bodge something. Can't believe I didn't check the shallows first though.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Bees pinging off my veil. By several colonies. If this keeps up after my suit is washed I'll be buying several queens in... To be honest I think it may make more sense to write the season off for honey production and focus on creating nucs. Saw virgins emerging on a colony I'd missed swarming...

Sanity Check BS Honeybees nuc + Maisemore Brood chambers

Based on what you've said above as I'm not going outside to check, you'll end up with a double bee space between the original 14*12 and the Maisemore box, then top space on top of the BS eke. It will be fine. Might have some brace comb in double bee space gap but that's not the end of the world.

    Still No Bees!

All the best with it. Also, once you have them you can always just buy in a different queen if they aren't well behaved.

    Flow Hives

Or make a conversion board which you can keep on and just run national deeps for brood with a flow shallow if they're that desperate for a Flow Hive.

    Accepting / Setting-up 1st out-apiary.

10m from gate probably fine at 1. 2 OK as gives evening sun. Lines fine IMO

    Cold, wet & windy

June gap is a known thing but the weather this year's is ridiculous. Here we have the brambles flowering yet many of my bees are on fumes. There's just nothing of significance coming in. Here's hoping for some hot weather and the plants going crazy with a flow. Queen rearing hasn't been great...

    Still No Bees!

Asking the honey guy sounds like a good shout. He may even be willing to advise/mentor too. In terms of swarm traps you don't need to buy one- even the right sized cardboard box will work (approx. 40L and yes, I've tried this successfully). Use a few drops of lemongrass oil inside the box with...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

They can re-seal them once a queen has emerged.

Why is the bottom box grumpiest?

I've tried a few on double brood this year and would tend to agree. I presume it's older bees so guards and ex guard.

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

What size frames are you after?

    Automotive honey

Even with a space saver the rest usually a well within the wheel which can hold a few jars.

    Automotive honey

I find that the boot tends to remain cooler than the rest of the vehicle so perhaps put it there wrapped in a spare jumper/coat.

    Empty supers

@jenkinsbrynmair I think it's meaning in the middle of a wood rather than under some trees. I've got hives under the edge of some woodland which produce ok but not deep into the woods.

    Reliability of the shake test

@JamezF some references here, just before halfway down the page: https://rcannon992.com/2020/06/07/buttercup-bedfellows/ Also: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protoanemonin Plus see attached paper which may be of interest. Not fully read it myself.

    Empty supers

It's been a poor year. They'll draw them when they have enough bees AND a flow. I'm really hoping for a better summer than last year. I suspect when the main flow comes it will be hard and fast. Length of it will depend on the weather. Apparently there's an old adage 'bees in a wood never do...

Why would the bees kill their larvae?

    Also treat for varroa.
