God I love growing our own

We are desperate for rain again. Grass going brown and trees closing down by shedding leaves. The outdoor tomatoes are as good as the greenhouse ones. Can't dig the main crop spuds as the ground is just rock hard. All chilli jam made, loads of chillis and peppers. The chillies we planted in the...

Bees making a fuss. Is this usual late afternoon behaviour or were they bearding or fending off an attack?

Normal, a quick change in temp/pressure will get them all returning at the same time, just check underneath to make sure they are not clustering underneath if it is an OMF floor. Sometimes they underfly and then don't understand why they can't get in.

    Hello & Honey Bees help

Be very careful if they are in the chimney with the wood burner liner. The liner still gets very hot and heat and wax do not mix. The last thing you need is it reaching flash point and starting to burn. Wax burns ferociously.

What's flowering as forage in your area

Can I move a queen between apiaries whilst she is still in the process of mating.

How right. The queens were there but the following spring they were useless, all badly mated and I ended up with all bar one hive as drone layers. You have a good memory Anduril. That was eight years ago!

Treating wasp nests within domestic dwellings

I will be honest, using a preparatory wasp nest killing powder will be far easier and will do the job quickly and with relatively little harm to anything else. Shake the plastic bottle well and squirt the powder straight in the entrance, preferably at dusk, close the windows. Repeat the...

Sometimes you could cry, every single beetroot has had the top eaten out by mice. Sometimes you just feel you can't win! Luckily just enough time to try and get a winter crop
