    Runny honey/crystallisation

Yes, that is why I try to keep the boxes separate rather than mixing it

Combining Hives using Newspaper. Lots of fighting and dead bees

A bit late in the season in case you did lose the queen but apart from that you did nothing wrong. I would have left them having got that far.

    Runny honey/crystallisation

Although this year none of my honey has set. Never happened here in Somerset before, think It must be high levels of line and blackberry.

God I love growing our own

Used a water press for the first time this year. 60 litres of apples turned into 25 bottles which fit perfectly into my honey warmer from Lidl (jam maker) for pasteurising.

    Air source heat pumps

Downstairs is a foot thick so don't need it. Upstairs is partly double brick with no cavity. Used internal insulated plasterboard where necessary. A large section is cladding with insulation.

    Air source heat pumps

It costs me £200 a year for a service but once our if warranty it is hardly worth it. My house is solid wall built on 1850. Good insulation and double glazing. Underfloor heating in main large lounge and radiators everywhere else. Running costs differ from day to day but anything between 10 kw...

    Air source heat pumps

Ah! I see what you mean. Fair comment but it is always under pressure with never any air in the tank. It is forced out of the tank by the mains pressure. No different to the water remaining warm in your pipes after you have turned the tap off, maybe 😁

    Air source heat pumps

Which is far too hot for a domestic system anyway. I run my hot water at 50⁰. I heat the tank once a day for an hour, that gives me ample water for two showers and all the daily usage. Why do I need it any hotter?

God I love growing our own

Finished our chilli jam a month ago but then we start everything early so that we have ripe fruits in the summer. It goes in so many dishes that we make pots and pots of it.

    Honey weighing machines

I just weigh it as I jar it. I always close the gate an ounce before the weight is reached and the last dollop is usually two ounces. So a little more goes into each jar.

    Air source heat pumps

Lots of people have turned the legionares off. If you are using hot water constantly through the day there is more chance of catching it through a mixer tap than through the water in the tank. I heat mine maybe once a month when the sun is out.

    First year keeper in Ireland

Well done, and a good write up for others in your position to see. Thanks, enjoyed reading it.

    Air source heat pumps

But that doesn't mean they won't work. There are so many pros and cons but these were never considered for say gas central heating. You just put it in and turned it up. It didn't matter if the heat went straight through the ceiling as long as you were warm. With ASHP that changes because with a...

    Air source heat pumps

Don't believe the hype that thick walls are bad. They are an excellent insulator and hold the warmth, they work well with a constant heat from a heat pump. The windows doors, ceilings and floors are the bits that need looking at. Our downstairs walls are a foot thick and don't need insulation...

    Air source heat pumps

Yes, had one for eight years in a solid wall house built in the 1850s . Do not get quotes from plumbers Get quotes from professionals Get as much insulation as you can as part of the deal. If it is radiators then either make single ones double or get larger ones If it under floor heating then...
