    Runny honey/crystallisation

Does this make sense? Layering can happen after a time in storage, and it is essentially when the sugars in the honey split and form visible layers. The glucose sugars crystallise, and the fructose remains liquid. Honey is a super-saturated sugar solution, of about 80% sugars and 14-20% water...

Some help on what has happened here

Phew.....I thought it was me. Nevertheless Beginning in 2024, many Roundup-branded herbicides available to consumers will no longer contain glyphosate at all. This active ingredient is being replaced by a combination of multiple active ingredients (e.g., diquat, fluazifop, and triclopyr) in...

Some help on what has happened here

Can’t recall. It was a mention at the end of a talk by Martin Giurfa: “From learning, memory and neurons: a journey to the cognitive world of honey bees”

    Hive insulation

You cover every surface with overlapping aluminium tape then you paint them. The ones in my photo were before they were painted. Laborious, yes, but lasted a good ten years.

    Hive insulation

50mm PIR on the crown board. I used to do this but all my colonies are in poly now

    Hungry bees

A way to find out is to shut the colony up at night and see if these bees are back in the morning. Getting too cold for anybody to be flying though.

Selling, we are doing it wrong.

    Yes your fault!

    That’s because I didn’t.

Some help on what has happened here

Of course you’re right. I always used that as an excuse for colonies needing multiple vapes. Are these “healthy” bees carriers of DWV if not actually carrying mites?

Both my parents are Polish. My father’s part of Poland has been stolen by the Russians twice. Most records are missing. I never got past my great grandmother on my mother’s side.

Sometimes they take a while. Nigel Semmence’s one is.

Some help on what has happened here

I was at the NHS and there was a piece about how glyphosate affects bees despite “common knowledge” that it doesn’t

Some help on what has happened here

They die in the field and dead and dying bees are cleared away by the living. I don't know if you've seen undertakers at their job? Yes, some bees are simply tossed out of the entrance but most are carried away. OR As once happened to me in mid-winter they remain dropped on the floor, deep...

    Hungry bees

A hundred? I’m afraid they are doomed. When did you get the nuc and have you treated for varroa?

Some help on what has happened here

Oh Hell. That’s awful. Don’t beat yourself up. We all do stuff that doesn’t work with the bees. Yes vaping every 7 days is ineffective. I do all mine every 5 x 4 I would have left a May nuc to build, give me a little honey and increase the next year. By the way, if you suspect AFB and if you do...

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

I’m a real convert to this method. It’s so simple.

You could make those clearers deeper?

Selling, we are doing it wrong.

Are any of us? According to Wiki The area now called England was first inhabited by modern humans during the Upper Paleolithic. It takes its name from the Angles, a Germanic tribe who settled during the 5th and 6th centuries. We have since been invaded a few times by Romans, Vikings, Anglo...
