Combining Hives using Newspaper. Lots of fighting and dead bees

There are potentially other options. One might be to use a screen board between them for a while.

    Runny honey/crystallisation

Have you ever had it split into two or three layers in a jar?

Found at the back of the shed

I'm constantly surprised at what I forget with the bees. For a while I kept finding some frames missing in some of my hives . The other thing with moving hives, which we do a lot here to get to different nectar flows, they are big colonies (otherwise not worth moving) and then somewhat...

Found at the back of the shed

Yes, and to remember to tend to it to prevent a wax moth infestation taking hold , but I guess even beekeepers suddenly get sick and/or die...

    Glucose vs Fructose in honey

There is a book online that I just looked up..."A Book of Honey" by Eva Crane. 1980. The whole thing is there (193 pages). It seems to be an excellent source of information.

I guess they could have been travel screens left on after travel...probably so long that the colonies died and were taken over by wax moth?

What's flowering as forage in your area

Tea Tree and Kunzea flowering here now. The latter has stamens longer than the petals and the tea tree, the other way around. Kunzea has an amazing perfume of honey nougat. The tea tree stinks a bit. The tea tree has a darker bee on it and the kunzea, a lighter one :)

    Wintering bees in the U.K.

Have you seen what Australian beekeepers do above the top of the frames? I’ve posted about it before.

    Could be! 🙂

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I'm not sure but they say it is related to the sunflower family. It certainly shows strong tropism. It is in most lawn areas here at the moment. A good year for it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arctotheca_calendula

They do find it attractive and go all yellow with the pollen, but I get where you are coming from.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

There is a definite smell of it in some yards here at the moment. It leans a bit towards the barnyard side of odours I guess. The honey tastes quite nice though.

I'd try to go if I lived closer.

Ok. A "spot the queen" game. Last of the bees going in -cast swarm.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Could be. I reckon bees of any age can probably revert to raising brood, perhaps not as well as in their youth though. I noticed huge gaps in brood in some colonies in the drought down here earlier in the year....but not in every colony of course!

What did you do in the Apiary today?

By the time the queen starts laying again they will be well and truly devoid of nurse bees, and then further time until new "nurse" bees emerge. I guess it goes to show the plasticity of older bees to resume nursing duties.

    Syrup “honey”

If a colony that has stores of sugar syrup/honey, gets weak or dies out and is robbed, that syrup honey will get transferred.

What's flowering as forage in your area

I couldn't work out why the bee was hovering. Then I noticed the little bee. I reckon the honey bee is being polite and not wanting to push in on the native bee.:)
