    Swarm Season Not Over Yet

    Checked test frame this afternoon. No sign of any queen cells, eggs are now larvea and rest brood. Carefully checked rest of frames, no queen sighted.no queen cells, no new eggs, no new brood. Some frames appeared to have a high proportion of drones. Checked other 2 hives just in case there...

    The colony appears to be quite strong. Plenty of workers coming and going with a load of pollen, don't know where they are getting it or what it is. Other 2 hives the same. Bob

    No I haven't tried a frame of brood/eggs in the hive. I'm an absolute beginner so please what would that prove(not trying to be facetious). I could take a frame from the re-hived swarm, which is the original queen and is laying as though it's going out of fashion. Bob

    Good Word for Thornes

    I am starting from scratch with my yougest son and my grandson is also showing an interest. We have built up 2 x National Hives (Thornes) and have 2 x nucs on order. Everthing is in place, impatiently awaiting arrival of bees. Bob

    I received an order of bits and bobs from Thornes which included 2 x glass quilts on 29/4/09. Checked the parcel for external damage(as one does) and opened up, everything well packaged and protected until came to glass quilts, wrapped in 3 layers of bubble wrap but broken into small pieces...
