    Very Scary Reaction :(

yes, I've get two. Only got one initially as that was all they had in stock on site and he wanted me to have one available immediately, not wait another day until they can order in a new supply!

    Very Scary Reaction :(

Thanks Doug. I saw my GP yesterday and he has provided an epi-pen - he mentioned that his parents keep bees so "he knows I may want to continue" and has also suggested prescribing steroids during the beekeeping season.

    Very Scary Reaction :(

I only started bee-keeping this May and have only had 3 previous stings, all with just a normal, local reaction. Then on Sunday I got stung (single sting) and reacted very badly indeed- bright red rash over my entire body, dizziness, vomiting, shaking, and something I guess related to...

Queenless Colony and Queen cells - Timings and options

Just popping back to say that the requeening seems to have been successful - introduced her 10 days ago, managed to control myself and *not* go back to check until today, and when I did inspect, found lots of eggs and new brood! (I didn't actually see HM, which was disappointing, but she isn't...

Queenless Colony and Queen cells - Timings and options

:thanks: Thank you all for your help. I have ordered a new queen - I didn't really fancy uniting with the swarm (assuming it became available) because of the risk of disease and not knowing the source or temper, but thought it was sensible to share all of the options I'd been given so people...

Queenless Colony and Queen cells - Timings and options

I only got my first hie this May so am very much beginner. I became concerned my colony had become queenless as I could not find the queen or any eggs or young larvae, but the colony seemed very even tempered and there didn't seem to be any queen cells being built, either. I spoke to a much...

    Moving a hive 90 degrees?

Just to update - I moved the hive this morning - lots of bees on the outside where the entrance used to be, to start with, but they seemed to have worked it all out by this evening. Thanks again for the advice.:thanks:

    Moving a hive 90 degrees?

Thanks for the quick replies. I hoped that turning the hive wouldn't be a problem but it's good to have some reassurance. The lady whose garden it is is very enthusiastic about the bees, so I don't think she would force them out, but obviously I don't want either her, or her gardening friend...

    Moving a hive 90 degrees?

I got my first bees earlier this year and they live in the garden of a neighbour of mine, as my own garden isn't big enough. The part of her garden the hive is in was not being used for anything. The lady whose garden it is has just called me to say that a friend of hers wants to reclaim an old...

    NBU Starvation alert

I wondered about that. I'm a newbie, when I inspected on Monday evening I saw that the bees didn't seem to have much in the way of stores so I went home, made some 1:1 syrup and gave them a feed on Tuesday morning, then today I saw this and wondered whether I should have made a different mix...

    Hello from Somerset

Hi, I live in Somerset - I've been interested in beekeeping for a long time, but until recently I couldn't find any courses which fit with my working hours, so I couldn't do anything about it! Then 2 years ago I moved house, last year I completed a beginners course last year, and got to get...
