    Aggressive bees

I have a BBwear ventilated suit which is made from chemically stiffened material that is 6mm thick. Making it impossibly for bees to sting through because it's thicker than the length of their stinger. Ive never been stung through it. They are also hornet and wasp pròof. They are...

    Konigin Machines

I bought a 20 frame radial electric konigin for this season. It came with tangential inserts also which was great for extracting 14x12 frames. I love it and would definately buy it again if I had need to. Yes to get that last bit of honey from the bottom I put a bag of sugar under the back...

    Aggressive bees

Yes. I'd suggest also opening one at a time. If 1 has lost its Q it will be grumpy. A bit of alarm pheromone and a sting or two from one would set the other two off. Opening one at a time and closing them down straight away if there is aggression and go on to next one. Then you'll get a...

    Swarm in Compost Bin

If you have a frame of open brood available you could suspend that in the bin so it's just asay touching the compost on the bottom and in contact with the bees. The queen and bees will migrate to the frame then pull it out and into a nuc a bit later.

    newbie honey extractor quick question

I second that. I was using a 6 frame manual one for several years. After hours and days of extracting and the aching arms.. ive now got a konigin 20 frame electric. Now I get nearly dry frames by just pressing a button and letting it run for 10mins

    Replacing queen

Personally. Unless you are replacing due to aggressiveness. I would put the old Q in a nuc and only get rid of her once you have a laying Q in theoriginal colony. Ive had too many cases of Qs . Not mating well, not mating at all or not coming back from mating. So I hedge my bets

Honey super on a new hive

I agree with others. While I'm not a fan of double brood personally. I take the approach of... If the brood box is so full of brood that the queen has nowhere to lay then expand the brood area. If the the queen is limited because of honey stored in the brood box then add a super

    Odd looking drone

Does anyone have any ideas of what is wrong with this drone. Saw it today in colony inspection. Everything else in the hive looked fine. It almost looks like it's had it's thorax scalped. It was not behaving abnormally either. Thx for any replies in advance Mike

    Beekeepers suit poll

BB Wear I switched to a BB wear ventilated suit last year. Its great. nice and cool in the summer and no stings. They are expensive but makes beekeeping in the summer a lot more pleasurable. They also do repairs on them if needed, though I haven't had to use that service.
