    Feeding Fondant.

Thanks James. I have made it before but have lost my sugar thermometer. To be honest the hives only use about 400g each over winter (I only have 2)

    Feeding Fondant.

Hi all. I cannot seem to get a hold of fondant for feeding. Nothing on supermarket shelves but ready made, ready to use icing sugar paste. I was just wondering if this is similair to fondant and would be ok to use. Thanks.

    Alergic reaction

Hi all. Just looking for advice. On Sunday evening through circumstances I was stung approximately 12 times. 7 of which were on my face. Not pretty. Immediately after it I experienced shortness of breath pains in my chest, wheezing, feeling faint, came out in an almighty rash with bumps all...

    Help Advice required please

Thanks for that. I will have a right good look again this week before I decide. Re the Carnolian swarming I dont think she has as there are still plenty of stores and bees. I will have a good look in this hive also.

    Help Advice required please

Hi Thanks for that, No signs of varroa and the colony was strong two weeks ago. Just wondering if splitting the good hive and getting a new mated queen would be another option and if so what is the best way to go about it or would it be best to go with Rabs suggestion. Thanks all.

    Help Advice required please

Thanks folks. I wonder if it would be prudent to just write this one off and clean box etc. At least then I would have a home for any swarms that might come from good hive if I keep an eye on it every day. I noticed in good hive a few queen cells and could not see original queen. She is marked...

    Queen question

Hi, Sorry, I dont know what you mean by (play) The frames towards the centre of the hive are pretty light of stores and empty. The honey stores seem to be by the top of the frames

    Queen question

Hi. Have a hive with a swarm and queen collected 33 days ago. Queen is still in residence but no sign of any brood. Honey, pollen and nectar on frames. About 5 frames of bees. I noticed one open queen cup today (Not with hinged cap). How long is it before I should start seeing any brood and any...

    Angry Angry bees

Hi Thanks fo your indepth reply. Q "They should have the old queen. Why do you assume this is a new queen? (And what are you assuming happened to the old queen?)" A The old queen was marked so has she been superseded or is this a cast swarm? Q "What did the new hive have? A full set of...

    Angry Angry bees

Thanks PH. Do you not need brood on the frame for a test frame? I have no brood on any frames. There was on original hive before swarm but as I couldnt inspect today due to stinging dont know state of play in original hive. Last week was when I was last in hive and last of brood was emerging.

    Angry Angry bees

Thanks. Forgot to say that neither hive has any eggs yet. New hive has juvenile/virgin queen. Im assuming she has had a mating flight as she has been there 2 1/2 weeks with great weather.

    Angry Angry bees

Hi all. Had one hive approx 2 1/2 weeks ago. Had a swarm out of this hive which I caught along with queen. Rehoused in new hive. Now have two. Still no eggs in new hive so assume new queen will be producing brood soon. Weather here has been great for last 8 weeks. No rain hardly. Original hive...
