I don't know. What I do know is that my hives are filling rapidly with nectar and pollen and hopefully I will not have to feed.What sort of bees? Our ivy has a loud buzz and at a quick glance covered with honey bees but I guess they may be the relatively recent newcomer, ivy bees. I find it difficult to distinguish the two.
The ivy bee is a new arrival to the UK. First recorded here in 2001, it is slowly spreading north. It feeds mainly on the nectar of ivy flowers and can be seen in autumn when this plant is in bloom.www.wildlifetrusts.org
