i know we are not supposed to reuse the jars, but i met by chance an old beekeeper this spring as i was changing out of my Beesuit in the the Car park f the Rose & Crown at Trowley Bottom ,

normally if he is in there when i go for pint i have a chat, and mostly is all about the old days and how good it was pre varroa,

but #i was talking about the cost of hex 12oz jars and you that you cant get the labels off from recycled jar

he said said "soak the labelled jars returned to you in Milton over night and the glue and label peals off"

Thought it odd, but tried it, and it does work, the glue breaks down and the labels just rub off, and a quick diswasher cycle and they look like new

of course if you are an EHO, i would never think of reusing jar LOL

So passing on the tip that i have learnt this year to you

so what tip have you learnt this year that you can pass on

How about a UV torch?

I have one, will try at next inspection

My top tip of the day is a bit obvious so appols etc.
A queen excluder (unframed slotted zinc type) makes a fantastic woodworking tool, its a square, a cutting pattern and a jig all in one and I always have one close at hand too.

I have learnt you can never have too many crown boards.

When inspecting heavily populated frames, shake the bees off, and don't assume that just because you've spotted two queen cups they're not hiding any more.
To think you've taken them all out, and then to come home from work three days in a row to have your neighbour advise that you've had "yet another swarm" leads to a considerably weakened colony.

Don't try queen rearing in a period of cool wet weather.
and
Queen can take up to 5 weeks to start laying so don't be impatient.
