I am a complete beginner here and looking to buy a couple of Langstroth hives second hand. I have no idea how much is reasonable to pay for one in good condition - without frames. Can anyone help?

First, welome to the forum.

Not knowing exactly what you are expecting but I note that you are obviously looking to buy built hives.

I note the following:

A new empty hive from a well respected national supplier is around £230 new.

A new polyhive may be little more than £90, if that, depending on location.

So second hand could be more costly than new!

I would suggest you look on-line at some of the suppliers, maybe check out epay, the auction section here, or others and perhaps even consider new (from some on the forum). Not many second hand poly hives come onto the market, but there is a member of this forum who can supply new at reasonable cost.

Regards, RAB
