Some of my colonies were exceptionally busy today, for the first time in ages. There's a bit of bramble in flower though not a lot, so I'm not sure what they were foraging on.
I went to see a swarm this evening, if you can call barely an ice cream tub worth of bees by such a name. They were just in a "pool" in the middle of a gravel path outside someone's back door. There is a feral colony in the roof at the top of the gable above the door so I'd guess that's where they came from, but it seemed a bit odd to me. I'd assume they're there because the queen nose-dived out of the colony into the ground, but I'd expect the rest of the swarm to abandon her if she couldn't fly with them. I don't rate their chances of survival very highly, but I've put a box containing some old comb over the top of them in the hope that they'll climb inside and decide it's home. At least that way I can remove them tomorrow and they won't be a nuisance to the house owner.
