What did you do in the Apiary today?

Did a quick check on the hives I vaped on Saturday, was surprised to find eggs on the varroa board of one colony (not a single varroa has dropped). Any ideas what these are likely to be - they look like bee eggs but there are dozens of them? No sign of any other creatures which might have laid them, and the board was only inserted at the time of vaping so they have appeared since Saturday... anyone seen this before, or have any thoughts?

I'm a bit surprised that they have not eaten any eggs they are discarding as it's a valuable source of protein and bees rarely waste anything ...I think Finman might be on the money though in the previous thread.

Seen it at our Training Apiary a few years ago after vaping oxalic acid. Lots of eggs. We assumed oxalic acid damage to the eggs and hygienic workers had cleaned them out. Colony was ok in the spring.

Why no varroa? Over wintering mites could be in sealed cells by now plus a low level of mites generally in the colony.

No idea why no varroa drop in this colony, I treated my colonies with MAQS in August and had massive drops but very low drops so far across all my colonies after vaping, and nothing at all in this one. I was a little late vaping this year because I have been away and the colonies would have been clustered before I went due to the cold temps. I wondered if the egg losses may have been linked to the vaping but I haven't seen it before or in my other colonies

Gave 1st batch of fondants.. More as my piece of mind than I think is necessity. Lot of reports around of heavy winter losses, all doom and gloom. So far we are still OK, all colonies alive.. Will continue with making fondants in future period.. have to prepare fondants also for late summer when there is no forage.

Spent yesterday and today preparing 2 hive’s for, hopefully, an increase of 2 new colonies this year. Small scale stuff I know compared to most of the forum members but going from 1 to 3 hive’s feels like the right move for a novice hobby beekeeper. I have had long covid for the past 2 years and since getting the bees last year I have found them to be fantastic therapy. However, I am possibly in danger of becoming obsessed

It's wet here but had a quick look at the weather on XC Weather for next week and looks as if we are in for a cold snap with a good chunk of snow in North Scotland where the forecast shows nothing above freezing for almost a week - day and night,. Windy too so batten down the hatches.
