I no longer believe in 'inanimate objects'.
- This has made sense of a quite a lot in my world.

The male of the species has never been inanimate..... stupid yes, ......... inanimate...never :)

today we are listening to the thud of scout bees measuring the internal dimensions of a bait hive as they fly across it inside.
One, two, three, Ouch!!! One, two, three, Ouch!!! One, two, Ouch!!! thats 40 litres

rhubarb leaves

I put some rhubarb leaves on top of brood box today, worth a go!

Any one else tried using this method, as described in beekeepers quarterly

Have you ever had that feeling that you're going nuts?
I put my hive tool down somewhere and I can't remember which apiary it was at :-(
Lucky I have a spare :)

See! I told you it would turn up (under the drivers seat in the car)!
Its always your favorite tools you miss the most when they go missing.

I'm Back - re-opened Apiary #1

I'm Back - re-opened Apiary #1 - and hived these that turned up on my Blue Recycle Bin!

Hived into a national, with solid floor, reduced entrance, 11 frames of foundation, clear crown board, roof - on a metal stand.

I've done my bit as a Beekeeper, now lets hope they like my new home and stay.

I must clear the nettles over the weekend, which are about 8 foot high, and somewhere in the nettles, there are some mini nucs!

Not to self, Register Apiary again with whatever NBU call themselves these days!

Aaw - poor bees! How often do we think/read... bees have been around for [however many] years... bees know best... etc.... and then you see a snap like this: reduced to cuddling up to a rubbish bin. So glad to hear you've given them a good home!

hived a large swarm at 2pm just as I was heading out to work
Still in the box when I got home so just transferred them to apiary 3 miles away
Will run through the hives in the morning to see if it's from one of mine
The smell of hawthorn is as pungent in the apiary as the ivy last autumn

checked this morning orientation flights, lots of bees at the reduced entrance, quick peek through clear cover board, bees present.

stay away now for 1 week.

yes, vape equipment to hand....and ready to go....need to check that mice have no eaten that, found a hood on a bee suit with a bloody great hole in it, eaten by mice!

I used to trickle swarms, but moved on a bit now! Does anybody still trickle ?

as this is currently only colony of bees, want to go slowly and don't want them to abscond.
