Could be a virgin in there... regards using a test comb you only need to put in a small amount of tiny larvae and eggs, even cut a small section out, but if using a frame you can put it back in the hive you borrowed it from after a few days.

Thank you for that Pete.. but i do not want to open the brood up on any of the hives at the moment as the weather is so hit and miss in my location.. i would rather have these five healthy colonies and take the hit of loosing one..i have my mind set on a dead dud 2018 GM Queen but as i have explained a few things do not add up..one being far too many angry bees to be from the GM strain in this colony that was once so small and has had no brood for months since it was small and two why are they clearing the brood frames up into the super instead of eating it..

P.s.. i forgot to mention they took very little syrup at the back end of Autumn probably 4 litre.. had a high Varroa load that took some getting on top of..and the colony had a hell of a lot of drones being produced in September/October.
