We've been dismantling one of the kid's large old wardrobes this afternoon. It's made mainly of 16mm / 5/8ths chipboard with a smooth melamine (or similar) covering. I was given a load of WBC outer casings a while back which are unused. It occurred to me that this would be an easy and cheap! way to make up internal brood and super boxes.

The sides would be very smooth with little or no grip (do bees have suction pads or mini claws)?

Lots of new materials being used nowadays but has anyone tried anything similar or any drawbacks (apart from the grip thing)?

Even though it will be inside of the external wbc boxes, the type of "wood" you describe is purely for internal use, hence from where you are dismantling it.

A better option might be to sell the WBC parts for a garden ornament and buy yourself a nice new cedar or poly hive.

What is smooth to your vission is as rough as a cliff face to bees, they can cling to glass!
