i think it says more about the web site it is being auction on, rather than the product..treat any statement on there with caution

I've got to say, this treatment sounds good, almost perfect but has anyone here got any experience of using it? or any proof of going what it says, the advert in beecraft also states that the treatment can be applied when honey is coming in, Is this too good to be true?

As I understand the stuff is authorised as a hive sanitiser in the same way Hive-Clean is which means it is not approved as a varroa treatment. This is no different to a number of other established varroa treatments such as formic acid where the cost of getting the approval is too high for the manufacturer to justify.

It is not authorised as a hive sanitiser by the VMD because they only deal with medicines, not sanitisers. The distributers have been told by VMD to remove the claim from their packaging and Beecraft have told them to alter their advert.
They could improve their advert by informing people what the active ingredient is.

Found this on the following website. http://www.timothy.hydes.btinternet.co.uk/june_newsletter.htm .its a fair way down the page.
VARROA GARD

This is a low dusting, highly effective powder product. It is also bio-degradable and more importantly inexpensive to use as a regular hive sanitizer.

It is a true 3 in 1 multi purpose product, manufactured to achieve the following benefits and all this without any detriment to the bees or their honey production.

1) Knocks out the Mite quickly and simply- good mite drops recorded in all trial hives.

2) Good overall Hive Hygiene- DEFRA approved Virucide disinfectant and drying powder.

3) Greater Hive Vitality- from havinmg No parasites and a higher level of hygiene practice.

Available in 1kg tubs at £8.95

The active ingredients are printed on the lable:
Ethanedoic Acid
Green Sulphur
Wild Thyme Oil
Bioux ( a DEFRA approved virncoe )
on a Calcium Carbonate powder base
Anybody know anything about these ingredients ?

Has any more information or results of tests come to light since the last posting.
Pity to let a new, and maybe , effective product fail to become recognised due to apathy.

Ethanedoic Acid is another name for oxalic acid. The VG product works on a similar principle to another product which is sold ostensibly as a hive cleaner. This is because they can't sell it as a varroa treatment because oxalic acid does not have the appropriate approvals despite being widely used across Europe as a varroa treatment.

The idea is to expose the colony more or less continuously to a low dose of oxalic acid. With VG it is done as a powder the bees walk across as they enter and leave the hive. The other product is a liquid which is trickled in at each inspection I think.

Both products also have other ingredients, in the case of VG some essential oils and a virucide.
