What do people use?

I had previously used Apiguard in Autumn and Oxalic with the sublimox in Winter but it's not going to cost too much to treat with Apiguard.

What do other people use an Autumn treatment, when treating numerous hives?

Apiguard.

I vape solely.
Three times in the spring and three times after honey off.
Once I had a colony that was obviously robbing a mite infested colony somewhere and seven vapes weren’t getting on top of it so they had Amitraz

Maybe that's the way forward for me.

Bit labour intensive but I'll be out feeding them anyway once the honey comes off.

certainly beats paying £1000 every season on autumn treatments.

wish we could get the apiguard in buckets

Apiguard is basically thymol....
I know?

You cant just go dumping thymol crystals into a hive though?

Make your own apigaurd I will try and get or dig out recipe. I used it for 2-3 years on late nucs as belt and braces.

Invest in sublimox or equivalent and lots of Apibioxal without additives. For out-apiaries battery inverter or small generator are good enough.
If you are on the heather when you return it will be too late and cold to use that thymol stuff....or at least it is in my area, we don't come back till mid-late September.

Yeah I've got a sublimox already with a portable generator.

Just do fancy doing 3 rounds of it at the end of the year.

Apiguard is expensive but easy to administer and low effort.

That would be interesting if you can find it. thanks

Understood...but is apiguard going to work at the time of year you apply it?

For me, Heather is done by first of September.

its normally still pretty warm by then - 20c isnt unheard of.

I'd probably give it one blast from the sublimox as well if I chose to use it.

Why don't you do an alcohol wash? Might get a surprise!
Read a report that there's a lot of type B around so maybe we can ease off a bit?

Good shout although I can see them in some colonies and had one earlier in the year that was just waiting to explode! Had to sort that one out with MAQs, which was very effective.

Do you treat for the mite, or only if you have seen it?
Would it better to treat 'in case' rather than miss seeing the mites, and then the colony suffering.

If you see it, it's probably out of control and too late.
The best way is to monitor mite levels throughout the year and only treat when you reach a threshhold

With broad do people vape three times five days apart?
