Location
Gower, where all the fun happens
Hive Type
National
Number of Hives
24 + a few nucs....this has to stop!
Hi, quick one to save me driving back to an out apiary this evening, can I unite 2 hives next to eachother (less than a foot away) during daytime without causing hell? I will use air freshener rather than paper I think. Thanks

If the colonies are even size, I just put them together. Bees do not know who must surrender or who must attack.

It is good to put better queen under a push in cage amd then kill the worse queen.

I do not use papers.

If another colony is under 1/4 out of another, the big colony may start to slaugter smalle one.

Thanks all, just done it with the usual Q- on the bottom, Qx, and Q+ box on top.... with a good spray or air freshener in between.....that may be the way forward from now on unless I merge a nuc or smaller colony as Finnan.

I do it all the time, even if they're not next to each other, rather than trecking all the way back to an out apiary

I only unite in daytime
