Uncapping

Hi all, what’s the best tool for uncapping? Knife, fork/scratcher or roller.

Knife for the nice even cappings, cranked uncapping fork for the sunken parts.

Two bread knives.
In a tall vase of hot water.
When one gets bound up with wax and honey scrape it off and put in the vase.Take out the other wipe it off and off to go.
Kitchen meat- fork- stabbing-thing for scratching open the valleys.

I did this for the first time too but found that the best thing was not to use the reciprocating blades but just one blade gives nice even finish for next years anticipated crop.

I found a super in the shed yesterday
I’ve cleaned all my wax and wasn’t prepared to start again so I used a heat gun( well my hairdryer really)
Worked really well.

I find the gun great where the wax capping are fresh and not darkened. Once darker I worry that the time it takes to melt the capping means the honey is heated to too high a temperature, so I revert to a knife.

I love my Dakota Gunness chain uncapper. Best day ever...10 drums extracted.
