To remove confusion this is about an opening that allows air and or bees to exit/enter from the bee occupied volume via an exit in the top of the hive. i.e through the the crown board or inner cover or a hole in the upper 25% of the hive. This does not include roof ventilation above a sealed crown board. Both top vent and top entrance are included in the term top vent
In the poll "insulated" includes polystyrene hives, cosies and substantial insulation on the crown board insulation.e.g. polystyrene or PIR more than 10mm not sheets of newspaper or a piece of carpet,
"Insulated" does not include WBC of the standard construction without substantial insulation.
if you have a mixture of insulated / non insulated just refer to either your predominant or preferred.
do not include nucs, queen rearing apideas etc.
