Thymol syrup

Do some people give their bees thymol mix for unofficial treatment just to get it in the hive or if you feel they have enough stores just leave them to it?

Ye they are smashing the ivy at the moment this is my 4th winter first 2 used it last year didn’t obviously all years are different just wondered it people aim to try and get some in even if they probably wouldn’t need the sugar but want to get the thymol in

Well this beekeeper doesn't use it, but I am feeding some syrup along side the ivy flow just to get them to weight.
Im feeding quite small amounts.

So do mine. When I returned to beekeeping after a very significant break I did a lot of reading to see what was new/advised/developed. The beneficial effects of thymol in syrup kept popping up all over the place. So far I have yet to see mould and certain other 'disorders' make an appearance.

No ivy here till October.. weather too cold for bees to use it.

So thymol in syrup every time.

I keep emulsion in garage and dispense using an eye dropper...

I was under the impression that Thymol was added to the sugar syrup feed to stop it from fermenting??
Just like the Oxallic Acid boat cleaner was added to drip and drizzel to clean the frames up???

That was my impression too. Are people now saying Thymol in syrup also has other beneficial effects on the bees?

Yes, it helps prevent nosema, studies have also shown they go into spring better

Is this quite complicated to make? I'm thinking of feeding them a little after harvest to get them through to the Ivy.

It's just an additive you put into their syrup
